PROCESS DESCRIPTIONS FOR FBBR TYPE

In this process the sewage will flow via gravity through a bar screen chamber & Grit Chamber
to an Equalization Tank. A bar screen shall be provided at the inlet point in the bar screen
chamber and the waste water will flow through this bar screen in to the Tank. Bar
screen shall be so designed that it can be cleaned manually from outside the Tank, The
sand, mud and minute particles from the Grit Chamber would have to be removed manually.
Waste water from the equalization tank shall be transferred by means of Pumps in to the
FBBR (FLUIDIZED BED BIO REACTOR) tank where it will be mixed with living organism also
called MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids) in presence of air & air shall be introduced
through submerged air diffusers (MLSS in aeration tank shall be maintained 2500-3000 Mg/L).
The FBBR system shall be designed in a way so as to achieve complete mixed or organisms
with raw sewage. After achieving a complete mixing of organism over a retention period of
8-10 hrs. The effluent would flow via gravity in to the Tube settler. In the tube settler, PVC
Tube Media would be provided to enhance setting of the sludge with attached setting
process. Through the use of the baffles the liquid in the Tube Settler is maintained in
quiescent condition with allows the solids to settle to the bottom for collection. The
accumulating solids known as Sludge shall be constantly pumped back in to the FBBR tank
by sludge recycle pumps. This return sludge undergoes further digestion in the aeration tank
and also provides the active organism needed to digest the incoming raw sewage.
The Tube Settler shall be provided with adjustable overflow weir to collect the treated effluent
and a scum baffle shall keep any floating mater from passing out in the final treated water.
Treated water from Tube settler shall over flow in to the chlorine contact tank where
hypochlorite solution shall be added to disinfect the treated water.
Excess sludge from the bottom of the Tube Settler shall be passed to sludge drying bed /
sludge holding tank for disposal.

Higher mass transfer resulting in better biodegradation
Availability of high specific area for micro organisms
Significantly better odor control
Smaller plant footprint / Lesser civil works
Stable processes and better quality of treated water (lesser BOD levels)
Very less sludge for disposal with minimal moisture
Ease of operation and optimized running cost

TREATMENT PLANT (FBBR)
SCREENING PROCESS
A Bar Screen chamber consisting of a coarse screen with uniformly spaced bars shall be installed
at the inlet to the collection tank. This chamber facilitates removal of coarse particles such
as plastic wares, gunny bags, waste clothes, bones, vegetable waste, twigs, leaves etc. The
screen is designed based on a peak flow rate of 51.6 m3 / hour. This screen will have to be
manually cleaned on a daily basis. The configuration of the screen is furnished here below.
The design of screens will be:
Flow Rate
: <17.10m3/h
Size of Chamber
: 1.20 m X 1.50 m X 1.5 m HT.

Sewage channel.
GRIT CHAMBER (OPTIONAL)
A compact chamber to remove the grit ie., sand, mud and other minute particles will be
installed at the outlet of the screen. This chamber will have a peak flow retention time of
two minutes. The grit settled will have to be removed manually once in a week. The
configuration of the chamber is given below.

PRIMARY COLLECTION-EQUALIZATION TANK
The sewage would then be collected in a primary collection tank where the variations in flow
and characteristics are dampened and also allows a constant flow rate downstream. Here the
sewage is kept in mixed condition by means of coarse air bubble diffusion. The primary
collection tank will be constructed in RCC and shall have a volume of 75 m3.The collected
sewage will be pumped continuously at a steady rate to the FBBR Reactor. The design of the
tank is as follows:
