Bomb- a vessel in which the combustible charges can be burned.

The bomb
must be a strong, thick-walled metal vessel which can be opened for inserting
the sample, for removing the products of combustion and for cleaning. Valves
must be provided for filling the bomb with oxygen under pressure and for
releasing residual gases at the conclusion of a test. Upon putting the bomb
inside the dewar, it must be handled with utmost care so that the sample
inside will not move
Bomb Head support stand- it is used to hold the head of the bomb so that it is
easy load the fuse and the sample on the steel capsule
Steel capsule- It is an open vessel that holds the pelleted sample.Make sure
that the capsule is thoroughly clean before using because residues can affect
the results of the experiment
Bomb Calorimeter, PARTS:
Calorimeter bucket - is a vessel that holds the bomb and the calorimeter
water. It must be carefully designed with sufficient capacity to hold the bomb
completely submerged in water, with a probe to read temperature and a
stirrer included to promote rapid thermal equilibrium without introducing
excessive heat in the form of mechanical energy. The bomb must be
positioned inside the dewar in a way that it will not hit the thermometer and
the mechanical stirrer.
Insulating Jacket- the bomb and the bucket are held in it. It serves as thermal
shield, it controls the heat transfer between the system and the surrounding.
Therefore it is necessary to have a means for establishing precisely the
amount of heat transferred during a test, or controlling the transfer so that it
is uniform from one test to another.
Pelletizer- is the apparatus used to make the powdere sample into pellets.
Enough pressure should b exerted when using the pelletizer so that the
pelleted sample will not crumble during transfer or during the experiment
Oxygen Tank- It is the source of oxygen in which it is used to charge the
bomb with oxygen. When you reach the target pressure inside the bomb, the
gas release valve on the oxygen tank before closing the bomb on the bomb
head because it can cause great pressure can accumulate in the tubes and
can create explosion.
Volume measuring materials this includes beakers and graduated cylinders
used. It is important to take note the error and accuracy of each measuring
materials. But in our group, graduated cylinders are used and upon checking
the apparatus, there is no written percent error of the apparatus
Forceps- It is used to handle the sample
Watch glass- It is where the sample was held during the experiment
Dessicator- It is an apparatus where the sample was stored so that no
moisture can be absorbed by the sample
Platinum fuse- Is the fuse used to ignite the sample.
Analytical Balance- Used to weight the samples. Make sure that there are no
residue in the balance because the balance is sensitive. The analytical
balance must be close during measurement
Ice- used to lower the temperature of water.

Naphthalene The sample used in the experiment. Tweezers should be used

to handle it and make sure that proper precautions should be observed
during the experiment. INSERT SOME MSDS HERE
