FESTIVAL OVERVIEW

Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan
President of the UAE, the 7th edition of the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival in Al
Wathba, Abu Dhabi is set to take place from 24th November 2016 to 7th January
2017.
This year the Festival will celebrate World Heritage and offer visitors a variety of
cultural and entertainment activities, folkloric performances, traditional
handicrafts, live demonstrations, traditional souks and restaurants from around
the world. These elements will be split into four main districts; the UAE District,
the Gulf District, the International District & the Arab District.
In addition to the Districts above, the Festival will include a unique UAE Heritage
& Culture Zone, a Traditional Games & Workshops Zone dedicated to children,
camel competitions & races, horse parades, falconry competitions, a classic cars
exhibition, a fun fair and a dedicated area to stage the many concerts and shows
that will take place during the 45 days; Celebrating 45 years of the Union.
The Festival provides a great opportunity for participants and visitors to celebrate
the Union and tribute the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as this festival
carries his name and legacy.

KEY OBJECTIVES

To tribute the remarkable Legacy of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan

Al Nahyan, Father of the Nation

To celebrate the 'Spirit of the Union' on the occasion of the

UAE's National Day

To illustrate the richness and diversity of Emirati tradition,

heritage and culture

To respect and foster understanding of World Heritage and the

core values of the countries taking part

To generate pride in the UAE that can be felt and shared with

all citizens and residents

To create a world class cultural festival, attracting both

residents and tourists

To continue to generate extensive media coverage that will

maintain the profile and success of the event in the long run

The designs of the souk

units are inspired by
traditional and old
architecture but have been
modified slightly to be
more practical for their
actual use during the
festival.
There are many variations
of the design in order to
enhance the overall visitor
experience.

participate by 15 May 2016
3. Point of contact to be assigned
4. Pavilion overview, design and programme of events to be
shared with Festival Organising Committee by 22 May 2016
5. Any assistance required by the participating country to be
communicated to the Festival Organising Committee by
31 May 2016
6. Pavilion plots for the respective countries to be handed over
by 17 July 2016
7. Pavilion completion, including all technical set ups and
testing by 10 November 2016
