Collecting
The program collects the mouse patterns and keyboard strokes and interprets them in a
manner to produce a 3D model.
The user defines what data is to be required, whether it is simply user input into the
illustration, or external input for the purpose of additional textures etc
Data sources are identified by the user. The data is then put into 3DS max, depending on
the individuals project and specifications.
The tools used to gather and collect the data for the software, are the following
hardware;
- Mouse
- Keyboard
- Potentially a scanner to collect external textures
3DS Max then collects all of this through user input and it is entered into the program
and then the information inputted is displayed.
As can be seen in the image above, an external image has been collected and inputted
into a 3DS Max project.
Organising
The information process that determines the format in which data will be arranged and
represent in the preparation for other information processes.
This is present in 3DS Max, as when a project is created it is for further uses, for
example in animations or further 3D compilation images
From 3DS Max, users choose how the data will be arranged and represented in
preparation for further uses by defining which image formats the project will be saved in
and represented in preparation for displaying.
The data collected from keystrokes and mouse patterns is organised into intelligible
representable information, ready to be analysed.
Analysing
This information process transforms data into information for users. It makes sense of
8
the data so people can understand it. It can include searching, sorting and comparing
data.
The data is transformed into information when the project is opened for editing or
creation in the program. This is what happens in 3DS Max.
Storing and retrieving: you can save and reload your 3DS Max file using the options in
the menu.
Transmitting and receiving: A 3DS Max project can be sent via the send option in the
menu as an email attachment or an internet fax. It can also be converted into an
alternate file type from within 3DS Max, to something such as j-peg, and then sent
through external pathways such as; Bluetooth on enabled devices.
For example, the above image is in j-peg format which is able to be easily and quickly
transmitted through any file transfer method.
Processing:
This information process manipulates data by updating and editing it. Processing alters
the actual data present in the system.
This is always present within 3DS Max software as it is a program created specifically for
the purpose of editing and creating 3d models. The tools within the program are
designed for editing pre-existing, and creating 3d modelling works.
9
Displaying:
3DS Max displays the created models in a rendered view, meaning, it shows the end
results of the models.
As can be seen in this image, a rendered (top image) versus non rendered view of the
project.
The rendered image is ready to be displayed for any applicable purpose.
