14. What do you mean by capacitive reactance? Why the impedance of a circuit decreases when a
capacitor is added in series with a given impedance?

symbols have their usual meanings.
17. Define the term work function of a metal. The threshold frequency of a metal is f0. When the
light of frequency 3f0 is incident on the metal plate, the maximum velocity of electron emitted
is v1. When the frequency of incident radiation is increased to 6f0, the maximum velocity of
electron is v2. Find the ratio of v2 to v1.
18. Why is the energy distribution of beta rays continuous? How did it lead to the discovery of
neutrino?
19. Explain with the suitable circuit diagram, how the zener diode works as a voltage regulator?
20. What do you mean by term modulation? Draw a block diagram of a simple amplitude
modulator for obtaining an AM signal.
21. In the circuit symbol of the logic gate and the two input waveforms A and B as shown.

(i) Name the logic gate (ii) Draw its truth table (iii) Draw the output waveform.
22. Why are the infrared radiations referred to as heat waves also? Name the radiations which are
next to these radiations in electromagnetic spectrum having : (i) shorter wavelength, (ii)
longer wavelength.
23. Radhika had come from Singapore on a holiday to her grandmothers place. She had heard a lot
about Tirupathi temple and so she went to Tirupathi with her grandmother. She walked
through a metal detector and heard a beep sound as she walked through it. When she went
back to Singapore she asked her father about the metal detector and its working. Her father
explained the working in detail and also the need for installing metal detectors in places where
people visited in huge numbers.
(i) Name the components present in the detector.
(ii) What is the phenomenon involved?
(iii) What value can be attached with this?

Derive the relation between electric filed intensity and electric potential.
Two charges q and + q located at point A (0, 0, -b) and B (0, 0 , b) constitute an
electric dipole. How much work is done in moving a test charge from point P (6, 0, 0)
to Q (-2, 0, 0)?

Three concentric metallic shells A, B and C of radii a, b and c (a < b < c) have surface charge
densities + , - and + respectively.

(i) Find the potentials of the three shells A, B and C.


(ii) If the shells A and C are at the same potential, obtain the relation between radii a, b and c.

Derive the relation for the power consumed in an series LCR circuit.
A circuit consists of non inductive resistance of 50 , an inductance of 3 H and a
capacitor of 40 F in series and supplied with current at 200 V and 50 Hz. Find the
impedance and the power in the circuit.

What do you mean by wattles current?

(b)

A 25 F capacitor, 10 H inductor and 25 resistor are connected with an ac source.


The emf of this source in volt is given by E = 310 Sin 314 t. Find (i) the frequency of
emf, (ii) reactance of the circuit, (iii) impedance of the circuit, (iv) current in the
circuit and (iv) Effective voltage across the capacitor.

26. Derive the expression for the magnifying power of the astronomical telescope for the normal
adjustment. Draw the ray diagram also.

Explain the defects of vision. How they are cured and what are the causes?
