Srt Little Bits Journal

Day 1:
I started to wonder what my project was going to be. I searched for
websites such as (Little Bits, 2016) to gather an inspiration. However, I
wasnt getting many ideas. Due to this, I had a very small number of
ideas. After more searching, I got a piece of paper and started drawing a
design of anything I could think of. It turned out to be pretty good. The
design was a robot made out of little bits components and cardboard. On
the robot, there are wheels connected at the bottom of it. I dont think this
design is very helpful in society. Next time, Im going to try and make a
better design that assists society in anyway possible.
Day 2:
Today I reviewed my design. I was confused how to make it. There were
little bits everywhere causing the design to present a vague
comprehension. I didnt know what to do until I realised that I should start
from scratch and know recreate the design that is from my head using the
first design as a small support. I began recreating the design. Step by
step, I drew the boxed head connecting to the body. I carefully put the
connections of the little bits in so it was understandable. Finally, I was
done creating the robot design. Then I looked at the complete design and
figured out that something was missing. I couldnt figure it out for quite a
long time until it hit me. There was a robot. However, in order for the
robot to be of full use, it had to be controlled. There was a simple answer
to this case, a little bits remote. Basically, its a remote created from little
bits. Seeing as how I had to create a remote now, I had to create a
completely new design because I couldnt put the wireless receiver design
in the old robot design. So, there I was. I started a new design. This design
involved a robot and a remote. The little bits components were placed in
the correct areas and the design soon came out to be a fantastic produce.
It turned out great. It was most clear to understand. The purpose of this
bag was to carry up to 500grams of rubbish. The remote controls its
movements so you can take it with you to carry. However, in the end, I
was not able to exhibit a design that displays all of the necessary little bits
components. Next time, I will try to make a design being able to see all
the little bits components and be more distinguishing when showing the
equipment used in making it.
Day 3:

Today, I started the creation of the robot. I had to make a little bits car in
order for the project to move. I started off by collecting the materials I
required. They were 2 DC motors, 1 wireless receiver, 1 wireless

transceiver, 2 powers connected to individual batteries, 2 wheels and 2

mounting boards. Firstly, I attempted at making the remote. I connected
the power to a wireless transceiver along with two slide dimmers. I had to
use splits and wires to connect some of the things because they werent
suitable for a specific place. I had to connect all of this to a mounting
board. With that, Id created the remote. Next, I went onto creating the
car. I connected the power and wireless receiver. I also connected the two
DC motors to the wireless receiver. Afterwards, I linked the wheels to the
car. At first, when I dealing with the wheels and the DC motors, I found it
hard to connect them because I didnt want to break it but sooner or later,
it was dealt with and I eventually connected. Before I connected the
wheels, I placed all of these little bit components on a mounting board.
Then I connected the wheels. That was the car done. Now, I had to test
the car. It was such a shock. One of the wheels werent working at all. This
caused the car to rotate in a 360 degrees direction, spinning on the spot.
I took a look at the car. I didnt know what to do. I thought that since the
wheels didnt work, I should change what runs them, the DC motors.
There were two types of DC motors. I had one of the types so it wasnt
going to be suitable if I changed just one of the DC motors. I had to
change them both. I got the other type of DC motor x2 and switched them
with these. After that, it started working well once I tested it. It went
straight, back, left and right at will/commandment. Next time, I will play
around with the little bits investigating their nature and learn more about
them.

Day 4:

Today, I continued with making my project. I reviewed my car. When I

started driving it, a problem came flying to me. The wireless receiver
didnt work properly. Whenever it worked, I could tell that it worked
through seeing the lit up channel on either channel A, B, C, D or E.
However, in this case, it was not lighting up. I didnt know how the
problem occurred. I checked to see if there was a problem with the
connections. I fiddled around with the connections and I saw that it wasnt
lighting up. Then, I went to the little bits board to see if there were any
spare wireless receivers. There werent any more of those receivers. I
really didnt know what to do. Knowing that the power is what gives the
power, I went and collected some other power little bits components and
some batteries and conducted a test. I was going to replace the power I
already have with a new power. For my luck, I was really, really lucky. After
replacing the power once, it started working properly again. Next time, I
will try and collect more stable/ less faulty little bits components.

Day 5:

Today, I progressed with my project. I had an idea to make my design

better. My original designs purpose was to just carry rubbish that we put
into the carry bag. My idea involves my design to contain a more
automated function. If I create something that after circular movement
pushes the rubbish it moves into the carry bag, the robot will be easier to
use and manage. There would be less effort or work involved in the
functioning of the robot. I started creating this extra function. I had started
creating this object. I had to use 4 pieces of cardboard and a toilet paper
tube. I had made some lengthen cuts in the tube then plugged the
cardboard pieces into it. There I had it, the object that was going to do it.
Day 6:
Today, I started my ppt. I created the flow chart. It involved the little bits
components I had used to create my car and remote. I put colours to
display the actual little bits components. Next, I took a few photos of the
car and the remote and also took a video of the car moving properly to
project as proof the car was working. I found it hard to place it the right
way on the PPT. I tried putting them completely on just one slide. That
seemed a little too squeezed. Next, I tried placing them on a slide each.
That actually turned out to be a great set out. I decided to put the video
as the last creation displaying side. Next, I put a description of the objects
in dot point form next to the pictures. There werent too many words
which was great. Afterwards, I created a new slide and put down a few dot
points that displayed a brief explanation of a problem and how it was
solved. One of them were, At first, one of the wheels were moving faster than

the other. Dc motors and little bits had to be changed . Another one of them
was, The wireless receiver was acting faulty. After changing the power and
moving the wireless receiver around, it started working again. One more of
them was, One of the wheels didnt work. After changing the power, the wheel
still didnt work. Only after we changed a DC motor, it worked . I found it really

hard to put it in dot point form at first, but I shortened it as much as I

could and brought it to a decent level of words. Next time, I will look for
the keywords and put them in the dot point form.

Day 7:

Today, I continued working on my PPT. I wrote my evaluation. This was it,

The project was a success. However, throughout the project, there were several
problems. Firstly, the project wasnt clear to make. There had to be many
corrections to the errors in the design. Then, there had to be advancements in
the design because the design was not fitting the groups main goal perfectly.
Furthermore, specific little bits didnt work. The wireless receiver and power
didnt work. There had to be many adjustments due to that. The wheels didnt
move at the same speed. That caused the project to move in one direction. Due
to this, the project went couldnt progress very well. Next time, the projects
design will be made clear and steadily created at the start and there will be a
clear understanding of what it does. The little bit pieces will be tested to see
which ones are best to use. After lots of corrections and rewording, the
evaluation that is here is what my final product was.
Day 8:
Today, I continued working my project. For a moment there, I just visualised the
finished project. It seemed like it wasnt going to work. Then I realised that the
extra function I had created to collect the rubbish itself wasnt going to help.
After realising this, I thought that lots of cardboard was going to be needed for
the robot outfit for the little bits car. Then, it hit me. I figured out that the car
wasnt going to handle that much weight. The amount of cardboard involved in
making the outfit was a little too much for the car to handle. So I scrapped that
idea. I then wondered what I should do with what I have created so far. I started
to research again and went on (Little Bits, 2016). I didnt know how the new
project would be helpful so I went on (Conserve Energy Future, 2016) and found
that clearing pollution is a good method of helping the society. After that, I went
back to (Little Bits, 2016), finding a project that someone else made. It had
contained weight at the size of a small cardboard rubbish bin but not a rubbish
bin. It was something else. I got a piece of paper. I started to draw a design. At
the time of drawing it, I didnt know what to draw until I thought of something,
Why dont I make a little bits car that has a subject with the objective of being a
bin. I then drew some designs. A front view, top view and one side view. It was
difficult at first because the picture wasnt clear in my head but after some
adjustments, I finalised these designs as my template.
Day 9: Final Day
Today, I created a bin out of cardboard and a plastic bag. It took some time but I
connected it to the little bits car I had created. There I had it. I had created my
car. Once I did that, I filled out all the pros and cons and this is what I got for the
pros side (thinking this was to positives):

The project can manage the weight of the bin and decently moves.
The signal between the wireless receiver and transmitter is strong.
All little bits stay on mounting board.
For the cons side (thinking it is the negatives that the finished project has) I wrote:

The machine cant carry much weight or itll stop functioning properly.
One of the wheels dont work anymore. It use to work but not anymore.
The machines slower than it used to be due to the weight.

I had presented the creation in front of my class with my group members.
