BOWMAN WOULD BE RE-ELECTED AT MIDTERM POINT

November 7, 2016 (Ottawa, ON) A new Mainstreet/Postmedia poll conducted for the Winnipeg Sun nds
55% of Winnipegers approve of Brian Bowman - and facing a divided eld he would be easily re-elected.
The Mainstreet/Postmedia Poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%, 19 times out of 20.
Halfway through his term Mayor Bowman would receive a signicant amount of support from voters said
Quito Maggi, President of Mainstreet Research. When we tested a hypothetical eld of challengers none
o them got close - though its tough to say what would happen if there were a narrower eld. Regardless,
with 44% of decided voters supporting him if an election were held today, Mayor Bowman would almost
certainly be re-elected.
Among the challengers who perform the best are Kevin Chief (20%) and Teresa Oswald (16%) followed by
Councillor Russ Wyatt (13%).
We also asked Winnipegers about the current conict at the University of Manitoba. Almost 4 in 10
Winnipegers (37%) take the side of the faculty in the current labour conict compared to those supporting
the University (11%). The poll was taken as the faculty strike was underway . Even with many classes
cancelled there seems to be strong support for the union at the moment, though a signicant portion (21%)
would not support either the faculty or the university. Labour conicts are particularly tricky to navigate
and how Premier Pallisters involvement will be perceived still remains to be seen.
46% of Winnipegers also told us they support adding more electric buses to Winnipegs Transits eet.
With only 26% opposed, that support could grow as more Winnipegers learn about the issue, nished
Maggi.

ONLY WE
CALLED
THE
LIBERAL
MAJORITY.

I recommend "Raiders of the Lost Campaign Arc," released Oct. 18, because its an interview
with a pollster that everyone who follows politics should hear. Quito Maggi, of Mainstreet Public
Research, was the only pollster I saw call the Liberal majority with such condence, a week
before we voted.
Maggi also has the distinction of being the guy who predicted the BC Liberals would win in 2013,
in deance of the majority of the polls.
His technique involves picking a true bellwether riding and polling it thoroughly. His explanation
for how he does it is well worth a listen and should be required research for anyone running a
political campaign. - Shannon Rupp, The Tyee, November 4th, 2015
