CoursefortheLaureaMagistraleinComputerEngineeringandfortheLaureaMagistraleinMechatronicEngineeringitisplacedat
the1sta.t.ofthe1styear.Thecourseprovidestoolsforbothdesignandimplementationofdigitalcontrolsystemsparticular
emphasisisplacedontheHW/SWmethodologiesandarchitectures.Trainingactivitiesareprovidedbothofsoftwareand
experimentaltype.

Itisstronglyrecommendedtofollowlecturesandtutorialsbearingapapercopyofthematerialusedbytheteacherinhislectures
(slides,sheets,etc).PersonalpossessionofMatlab/SimulinkandofaCcompilermightbehelpful.

Prerequisites/Assumedknowledge
TheknowledgeoftheSystemTheoryessentialsisfundamental,suchastheconceptofdynamicsystem,itsmathematical
representationandpropertiesanalysis,thetimeandfrequencyresponse,theconceptofperformance,theconceptoffeedback.It
isalsoimportanttoknowthesimplestcontroltechniquessuchasstaticfeedbackfromstatevariablesanddynamicfeedbackfrom
output,bothintimeandfrequencydomains.KnowledgeofSignalandSamplingtheoryfundamentalsisadvisable.Finally,work
experienceinMatlab/SimulinkenvironmentandinCprogramminglanguageisrequired.

Deliverymodes
Laboratoryactivitiesarerelatedtothetopicsofthelecturesandtothedevelopmentofapplicationexamples.Someexercisesare
carriedoutinacomputerlabwiththeuseofMATLABoperatingenvironment(ControlSystemtoolbox,Signalprocessingtoolbox,
Simulink).Tutorialsinexperimentallabarealsoprovided:experimentstoverifythelecturestopicsandanadaptivecontrolofa
stablerealsystemwillberealized.

acontrolsystemdesignandatestwithmultiplechoicequestions(2.5hourspcandMatlab/Simulinkavailable)
atechnicalreportconcerningtheactivitiescarriedoutintheexperimentallab.
Thefinalmarksisgivenbythesumofthedesign/testmarkandofthereportmark.
Nooralexaminationisingeneralcontemplated.
