To Whom It May Concern:

Re: Tara Soule

It is a pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Tara. I am her university supervisor

during student teaching. Prior to working with student teachers, I was a principal in the Des
Moines Schools and also supervised early childhood and some special education programs.
Tara will have two student teaching placements during the semester. The first placement was in
a Head Start classroom. There was a lot of diversity in the two groups of students, including
children from non-English speaking homes. She is in her second placement, it is a first grade
classroom in a suburban school district. There are 22 children in the class and it includes some
special education and ELL students. She will complete student teaching December 9 th.
Tara consistently demonstrates the ability to plan well, relate to students and implement
engaging lessons. She establishes good relationships with her students, cooperating teachers
and other staff. In a recent observation of a math lesson she showed excellent skill in the areas
of explicit instruction, guided practice and reinforcement of appropriate social and academic
skills. Her lesson was seamless and looked like what one would expect of an experienced
teacher, not a student teacher.
Tara entered student teaching with a variety of experiences with children behind her. Some of
the experiences were practicum experiences and others were volunteer or paid positions. She
is well prepared because of her coursework and extra endorsements in special education,
reading and English as a Second Language. Her work in student teaching reflects her good
background and academic preparation. She will graduate with a GPA of 3.95 so she is a very
capable learner herself.

Tara will be a very successful teacher. She is well prepared to start her career and I recommend
her with no reservations whatsoever. Shell be an asset in any school.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Jerry A. Caster
