Activating Prior Knowledge

Students will view a Primary source image of the Liberty
Bell
They will be asked to describe the image that they see
through discussion and raising their hands

Students will identify the symbol in the image and will
be told that it is known a symbol of Pennsylvania

The students will listen and follow along as the teacher
chooses a student to read the Big Idea that is listed on
the front board:

The students will listen and follow along as the teacher
chooses students to read the Essential Question that is
listed on the front board:
What are Pennsylvanias state symbols?
Objective Statement
Students will listen and follow along as the teacher
models the use of the PA Markers app. Students will
then work with an assigned partner and use the app to
locate two Pennsylvania Landmarks. The students will
complete a Graphic Organizer using these two
landmarks. Finally, the students will create a State
Symbol Book by conducting research on their own.

Activating Prior Knowledge and the Hook/Lead-in will
serve as the PreAssessment of the Students
Modeling of the Concept
Students will listen as the teacher models how to use
the PA Markers app on the iPad (using document
needs
camera)
Students will be shown examples of first, the Graphic
Organizer that they will complete with a partner (all
students are social). For this activity, they will write 2
descriptions, one for each of the Landmarks, and will
also draw a picture of each.
Next, the students will be shown examples of a State
Symbol Book that they will complete individually after
completing the Landmarker Graphic Organizer
Student will be provided with a checklist of tasks to
complete
Both verbal and nonverbal cues will be used to
remind the student to stay on-task and of rule
violations

Students will be observed during their partner work to
be sure that each student is participating. Students will
