Chang in life Style

Ravindra was born in a farmers family, who was healthy till 18th
year of his age. There are five members in his family. He could not
continue his education onwards 9th standard, due to poor economical condition of his family. He began sharing hands with his father in
farming.
All of a sudden he caught a normal fever in August 2001 that
broke in to his brain which, changed his life completely. He was
treated in District Governmental Hospital and the fever subsided
and he came out of the fever but occurred some change in his behavior. He began to call bad names to others, throwing pots on others, this made people began to fear of him and his terror was
spread over in the village. His family members and the reputed people in the village submitted a report in the Police Station and decided to admit him in the mental hospital Nagpur. After receiving
treatment he was improved a lot and hence discharged from the
hospital, but after finishing his medicines he again begun behaving
lunatic and again was taken to private hospital, spend much money
got some relief.
In April 2002 we happened to sanction a CBR Project and while
surveying the case of Ravindra came forward which we carefully
studied and was taken to Sevagram Hospital where he could get
medicines in cheap rates. Good positive changes occurred in him
after few days of continued medical treatment. The workers carried
out regular follow up of this case and now once again he is assisting
his parents in farming.

Need of Regular Medicine


Name: Ms. Sakshi Padalwar
At Choramba , Tq. Ghatanji, Dist Yavatmal,
Age-12 Years, Education 5th Std
Sakshi has been born in a farming family. Her father owns three acres of land who cultivates this
land under dry-land condition. She is mentally disabled since born and suffering from epilepsy
since last eight years. At the beginning the attacks of epilepsy were befalling occasionally, but now
it comes 5-6 times a day and even at night times. She was taken to Government hospital for examining and medical treatment, but the family no longer could continue the medicines due to poor
economic condition.
It was not affordable to her family even Rs. 1000/- per month on medicines, medical check-up,
travelling expenses from their native village to Yavatmal and double travel on absence of doctor.
Due to constant attack of epilepsy her education after 5th has been stopped. She would need
yearly Rs. 13200/- for her regular medical treatment.

Name: Mr. Janu Meshram


At Choramba , Tq. Ghatanji, Dist Yavatmal,
Age-9 Years, Education 2nd Std
Janu has been born in a farm labour family. His father has left his
mother and after his birth her mother got re-married. His guardian
grazes cattle of others. His mother and step-father do not pay attention towards Janu. He is totally being nurtured by his old
grandmother. Apart from mental disability he is suffering from
other disease since born. The tribal community is superstitious
therefore; he was taken to Vaidus, exorcist and a quack by his
grandmother.
The CBR workers taken him to hospital and the doctors diagnosed that he was suffering from epilepsy. The medical treatment
was started that incurred about Rs. 1500/-. This much expenditure
is not affordable for his grandmother and hence he need support
from the society to a tune of Rs. 15000/- per year.

Name: Ms. Shilpa Chauhan


At. Shiroli, Tq. Ghatanji, Dist Yavatmal,
Age-19 Years, Illiterate
Shilpa has been born in a Pardhi community which comes under Nomadic tribe. Right
from 6 years of age she was suffering from earache and was constantly remain ill from
that age. Her father was dead when she was a tiny girl now living with her sister and
mother. Her mother is working as a farm labour and nurtures her family. There was no
one earning person in her family, her mother has to toil for feeding her family and thus
she has to engage continually in work. Due to this, Shilpa was neglected and became a
mental patient.
Under these circumstances some heartless youth have rape her and this caused increase in her mental illness. She was given medical treatment through the CBR project.
After medical treatment she remains stable for some days, but as soon as the medicines stopped her illness come up again. She needs regular medical treatment for com-

Name: Mr. Pravin Sakharshete


At. Parwa, Tq. Ghatanji, Dist Yavatmal,
Age-39 Years, Education HSSC
Pravin was working as a labour in a Reymond Company. His property was pocketed by
his brother and sister. His wife had created extra-marital relations, which came to his
notice. Both these things have caused changing his life totally and he became the mental patient. He wanders here and there in the village, collects garbage and lastly takes
shelter in a peaceful place. Due to this his mental illness is increasing day by day.
He needs medical treatment for coming out of this blow and his rehabilitation he would
require yearly Rs. 8500/-.

Name: Mr. Amin Dadu Rathod


At. Shiroli, Tq. Ghatanji, Dist Yavatmal,
Age-35 Years, Illiterate
Amin has been born in a Pardhi community which comes under Nomadic tribe. He is
living with his mother and has no brother or sister. Traditional business of his community is catching quails, rabbits, begging and others for their livelihood. However, he
was working as farm labour and earning his livelihood.
He got married and became a father of two children. The family was leading good life
but all of a sudden her wife quarreled with him and finally left him. Due to this blow he
became mental since last seven years. Due to the change occurred in him he was
taken to hospital and given treatment. He looked normal till the medicines are continue and once the medicines are over he becomes abnormal. He has left working as
farm labour and begs for feeding himself and his mother. He requires continued medicines for coming out of this illness.

Name: Mr. Sandip Gajanan Turak

Age-29 Years, Education SSC
After completion of his education up to SSC, Sandip began to work as a wage labour
since, his farm land was grabbed by his maternal uncle after death of his father. He
was shocked by the death of his father and secondly the grabbing of farm land by his
maternal uncle. Due to continued thinking over these incidents he caused mental illness.
His mother also does not help him; therefore he uses to work for 5-10 Rupees a day.
He wanders here and there in the village, eats stale food, sleeps any where in the
temple, bus stand. He lives in insanitary conditions cumulative effect of all these has
happened and mental illness increased. He needs regular medical treatment for coming out of this blow.
