Before the read aloud
Ask the students to
think about the
characters during the
read aloud and think
about how they are
similar and different.

1. Introduce lesson, explain objective.


Introduce the book
Before reading the book, I asked the students
to think about the characters we are going to
read about and how they are similar and
different.
I asked the students what compare and
contrast to make sure they knew the
definitions of compare (similarities) and
contrast (differences).
2. Demonstrate objective (model); reference
book as needed, provide examples (e.g.,
visuals, demonstrations for objective).

asked questions about how each character is.

After, the students went back to their seats
and created their own Venn Diagram filling it
with details and/or characterizations they
wanted to describe and compare the two
characters.
