5. Prepare revision notes regularly

You should prepare revision notes at least 3 to 4 times in a
month or once in a week. This would ensure that you are not
burdened with the note-making task for the last moment.
Subjects mentioned below shall be prioritized in the order of
preference.
1. Mathematics: It contains common engineering mathematics
and questions are quite easy. Matrices, dierential
equations, and calculus topics covers maximum weightage in
this subject. Mathematics is one of the maximum weightage
subject for GATE. Mathematics subject can be used as
scoring subject in GATE.
2. Electric Circuits: This is the basic subject of Electrical
Engineering. It can be observed from the more questions are
being asked from this subject. Most of the questions that are
asked form this subject are concept based and KCL, KVL
based. Hence, concentrating rst on this subject would give
easy marks. Practising the more numerical examples would
fetch you more marks in this subject. Questions on Steady
state and Transient response of circuits are asked regularly.
Based on the previous GATE exam questions, it is observed
that fourteen marks were based on this subject.
3. Electrical Machines: It is one of the core subject of Electrical
Engineering. All the topics in this subject are similar and have
correlation between them. Transformers and Induction
machines have similar concept except that former being
static and later being rotating. Based on the previous GATE
exam questions, it is observed that fourteen marks were
based on this subject. Hence, one must prepare all topics of
this subject.
4. Power Systems: The questions from this subject are pretty

the subject. Questions were asked from every topic of this

subject in previous GATE exams. Concentrating on each topic
of this subject would make you score maximum marks.
Based on the previous GATE exam questions, it is observed
that twelve marks were based on this subject.
5. Control Systems: Control Systems is one of the important
subject of EE. Based on the previous GATE exam questions, it
is observed that ten marks were from this subject. Most of
the questions from this subject are numerical based.
Understanding and solving the transfer functions is the basic
of control systems. Solve problems from time domain
analysis and frequency domain analysis which would get you
more marks.
6. Analog and Digital Electronics: From Previous GATE papers, it
can be seen that around ten marks are asked from these
subjects. Although, EE students may nd these subjects as
dicult but questions are easy to answer. Practising
sequential and combinational circuits would make you to
solve Digital electronics easily.
Solving Analog electronics questions consumes more time.
Understanding basic concepts such as diode circuits, transistors,
feedback ampliers and Op-Amps would make you consume
some time. Although practicing all the topics from this subject
would give full marks but learning above mentioned topics would
help in scoring well in this subject.
7. Power Electronics and Drives: Earlier GATE exams suggest
that around eight marks are from this subject. Questions
from this subject are similar to Electric Circuits.
Understanding power electronic devices would be essential
for scoring good marks in this subject. Most of the questions
are based on combination of circuits and power electronic
devices. Rectiers and Inverters are essential would fetch

8. Signals and Systems: On an average eight marks are being

asked from this subject and has a good weightage in GATE.
Most of the questions are concept/formulae based. While
solving the problem one should know about the type of
method to be used i.e., time domain or frequency domain.
Remembering Fourier, Laplace and Z-transforms formulae
would be essential in performing better in this subject.
9. Electrical and Electronic Measurements: The questions are
similar to electric circuits. Most of the questions that are
asked from this subject are based on the Bridges and
measuring device such as wattmeter etc. The questions from
this subject are easy. Solve the example questions given in
the A.K.Sawhney textbook which will make you solve all the
questions from this subject. On an average, ve marks are
from this subject.
10. Electro Magnetic Fields: This subject is considered as one of
the subject of GATE. Concentrate mainly on theorems,
dierent type of laws and dielectrics. Remember all the
formulae. Preparing this subject would be better as it is
relatively easy to answer questions from this topic. On an
average, ve marks are being asked from this subject in the
previous GATE exams.
11. Aptitude: This is having easiest section in GATE paper.
Revising aptitude syllabus saves your time and also possible
to score very good in GATE.
