Task
Migrate VM guest machine Win2k8-www-2 to the new VM-FEX DVS and configure it for
PassThru Switching (PTS).
Ensure that Server1 connected to N5K1 can ping the guests.
Configuration
In vCenter, in the left pane, right-click Win2k8-www-2 and click Edit Settings.
FEEDBACK
Click Network Adapter 1 and click the drop-down on the right to change the port group to VM110_PoProf (VM-FEX-DVS1).
If all we want to use is PassThru Switching, an E1000 adapter type is suitable. Note that
DirectPath I/O is not supported on this adapter type. Click OK.
In the right pane, click the Configuration tab, select vSphere Distributed Switch, and notice
that the VM is now a part of the DVS.
Verification
Back in UCSM, in the left navigation pane, click the VM tab, expand Virtual Machines, Host
Blade 1/1, Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Win2k8-www-2, and click vNIC0. In the right
pane, click the VIFs tab and notice the two VIFs, one to each Fabric. Only one is active for
forwarding, although both appear as operationally active. This is because UCSM pre-provisions
all fabric-failover-enabled vNICs on both FIs, but only forwards traffic out of the designated FI. The
other FI is fully ready if any network failure occurs on the primary FI.

From Server1 connected to N5K1, try to ping the guest at the IP address 10.0.110.212. We can
see that traffic works just through our FIs and down to our VEM running on our VM-FEX DVS.
Back in NX-OS on FI-A, we can see that we have packets matched from the ping.
