The Lake Calls

Stories of old Native American legends tell of a star falling from the sky. Ill
omens followed soon after, the area hit by this fallen 'star' was shunned by
all, man and beast alike.
The exact location where this meteor struck is lost to legend and time...
----------------------Now, it's the 1920s. The investigators all live in the town of Arkham. Recently
people have gone missing around the lake area north-west of Arkham itself.
An unexplainable aurora have been flashing across the sky repeatedly the
last few nights, coinciding closely with when the disappearings began.
------------------------Plothooks and Other Stuf
Only people from the Northeastern parts of Arkham have been going missing.
Anyone living and working away from that place have not been touched.
Some people from Essex have also gone missing. So far it's a pretty even
split between Missings from Arkham and from Essex.
A cult is worshipping the Aurora and holds tenants with witchcraft. It's not
native to Arkham itself, having roots instead both in Salem south of Arkham,
as well as other places like the northern parts of Canada, Greenland and a
few people living at the Northpole.
This Cult from Salem (a Collection of 5 people) have recently moved to
Arkham and is part of the reason as to why people go missing: They Kidnap
them, prepare them as Sacrifical Offerings, and then let them go to their
doom once ready.
The Meteor struck south of what is now known as Essex Falls near Essex.
A total of 10 people have gone missing by now, with a steady number of 1 or
2 people every 6 days or so.
The Meteor contained a Colour Out Of Space Embryo inside itl, and due to it
striking into the Essex Falls Lake Area, the Embryo's maturity cycle was
greatly slowed. Why this is, only it would know. Maybe it's part of the
compound in which the lake and the surroundings are made up of. Maybe an

old Protection Rite, erroded by time and the elements have not fully stopped
this Embryo, but instead just slowed itself growth and powers.
The Colour Out of Space Embryo is locked into place by very (VERY) old Elder
Sign, originally placed at the area to seal away something... else. However
due to the landing of the Embryo, the Sign's power is just barely managing to
keep the seal up as well as ward away the Embryo's powers.
The Embryo is in fact already at the Larval stage by now, and close to
reaching maturity into a Young Colour.
All the missing people are infact victims of the Larval Colour, all of whom
have been called out there in the depths of night from their beds, although
first caught by the Cultists for preperation, walking right into the lake and
then had their life force consumed by the Color.
However, it's not the Larval Colour that's been calling them, but rather
something else... hidden deep, deep beneath the water surface of the Lake. A
sleeping Old One, Sealed there by said same Eldersign which have inhibited
the growth speed of the Colour. However a slight amount of power have
managed to escape the Eldersign and have managed to slowly call a few
victims by now to come to the Lake, of which is Larval Colour have taken
great use of before these Dream Called people could get far enough out into
the lake and meet the True Inhabitant of the Lake: Gla'aki itself, Servantless
and deeply asleep, trying to call people to their doom and once more arise.
The Aurora that's been happening recently is a direct result of the supressed
Larval Colour's Powers escaping in spurts of what is just thought of as a
normal (but out-of-place) Aurora Borealis.
There's an Old Book called 'The Luminous Collection'. It's not so much a book
as a collection of observations, scribbled insanities, as well as a light clue into
the Cthulhu Mythos itself, along with hints at how to deal with a Colour Out Of
Space. It can be found at the Miskatonic University's Libary in what's mostly
known as the 'forbidden' section (which is only rumoured to exist).
The Forbidden Section actually do exist, and it's tended by a rather... odd
elder man called Charles Wellington.
The Forbidden Section itself is found behind a secret panel in the main Library
and is known about both by the Headmaster of the Miskatonic University, the
Librarian herself, as well as Charles Wellington of course.
Within the Regular Library is also found a Book (or rather it's a Diary), it
author is unknown but is suspected of being a man of african or middleeastern descent.
Within it is hinted clues about Gla'aki resting in the Essex River Northeast of

Arkham, as well as the odd annotation about what do in order to deal with
him (aka. Stay away, don't get spiked, etc. etc.)
Lastly, The Cultists have a book at their hideout known as only 'The Diary'.
It's said to be mostly the thoughts, daily notations, etc. written by a
Paranormal Investigator (albeit not what anyone would cal themselves back
then) a 100 or so years back.
This person, whose name remains lost to time, is most likely the original Head
of the current Cult, back when it was firsr established.
The Diary contains specific notes about a Colour Out Of Space encounter,
along with later worship tennants and how to interact with such a being,
should you happen to encounter them.
A young Father (around the age of 25) have lost his Daughter just a few days
ago to the list of Missing People. She was just gone the following morning. His
Name is Patrick Thorne and he works at the Arkham General Store. He's a
Lone Parent and his Daughter is just 6 years old. He's been searching the the
Town of Arkham for anyone willing to help him find is daughter and will pay
for whatever clues or hints to her location that anyone can bring him.
------------------------People Of Note
Patrick Throne - Lone Father with a missing daugther
Broken, lost and in shambles, Patrick wishes for nothing else but the return of
his daughter. She's been missing for a little over a day now.
Parick himself is a Average man of average height and weight. He usually
wears a flatcap and a woolen sweatshirt when not summer.
Ellie Thorne - Daugther of Patrick
Ellie is the most recent victim of the Disappearings (the 6th one from
Arkham, the 11th in total), as well as the youngest victim by a large margin
(most victims had been well past the teenage years). She's found at the old
Cavernous mansion Ruins slightly North of Arkham. It is here she's held by
the Cultists and is slowly prepared to be sent out to the Colour and thus
sacrificed to it.
If found, she's in a sort of Hypnotic Trance, easily controlled by verbal
command, but constantly pulled towards the Lake if not securely held in place
and forcibly dragged away.
(If she's not found by the 5th Night from gamestart, she'll be lost to the
Larval Colour at the Lake).
The Cultists - Worshippers of the Colour and Practitioners of Magic.
These Cultists are very much crazy, although not specifically insane. and
worships the Colours Of Outer Space as being godly creatures. They will spot

at nothing to ensure the maturity of the Larval Colour (although they know
only a little bit about the Real Truth).
To reason with any of them is extremely tough to try and in any case, it's hard
enough to not instantly get into a fight with them if they are discovered.
Other Investigation Party - another group of Investigators trying to find Ellie
Throne
A fellow group of investigators who wants the glory of finding Ellie and is in
no way willing to aid or otherwise help the PC Group.
All in all, they are Newbies thinking they know a lot, and acts more rashly
than would be advised. They are not Allies, but will show a mask of
friendliness if it could help them reach Ellie first.
(they are 4 people: Daniel (22), Rich (30), Maria (26) & Thadeus (51).)
Charles Wellington - Slightly Mad, Occult Adept
Charles is a practitioner of Magic, albeit a rare user of it due to the sanitywracking damages such practices tends to cause. He's been a resident at the
Arkham Asylum a few times. He tends to be timid enough, but can be easily
enraged if one tries to steal one of his books.
Miscatonic Librarian - Slightly Eccentric Madam
The Librarian of the local University: lover of books and alround nice-person.
she's a 30-something lady with that 'librarian' look to her (like glasses, long
skirt and hush-hush attitude).
The Sleeper In The Lake - Manifestation of Gla'aki
Gla'aki sleeps in the deep waters of the northeastern Lake area, which is
technically a slight bit southwest of Essex if correctly referenced. He sleeps
there, having been seal into a dreaming slumber by unknown methods and
means. Only an Eldersign is found in a cave technically underwater, but dry
and free of water. If Removed or otherwise damaged or destroyed, The Old
One will slowly awake and possibly spell the end of the World, if not just being
a forerunner of The End.
Colour Out Of Space - Larval form, closing Maturity to Young Cloud
The Larval Colour is currently in it's Larval Form. It will reach Maturity at the
4th's Night from Gamestart. It can be killed, or merely left alone and it'll leave
the area to feed elsewhere now that it could break free from the Eldersign's
Supression of both it's growth and maneuverbility.
(It will reach Maturity to Young Cloud at the 5th Night, then it'll stay for a few
days before fighitng off the Eldersign and leaves the current area to
elsewhere to feed and grow into full maturity)
------------------------------Time Line

Day 0 - Sunday 8th of October 1920

Patrick Thorne: Patrick Asks the two groups of investigators to meet him
the day after, making his offer of payment to help find his Daugther.
(10 dollars are given for each day spend looking for Ellie.)
(Finding Ellie in time will grant the Group that finds her 100 dollars each.)
(Not finding her in time will cause Patrick to commit suicide right infront of
the bad news givers, gun into the mouth, trigger pulled. This causes 1/1d6
stress if right up close to him. Causes 0/1d3 if only it's observed a litle further
away, due to avoiding blood spatters and such.)
Ellie Thorne: Ellie is a Captive of the Cultists, caught in the Dreaming Call
from the Lake. She'll remain here until night of day 5 when she's send as the
final victim to the, by-then, Young Cloud.
(She needs restraining until the 6th Day when the Cloud leaves the lake and
the Eldersign's full strength returns to keep Gla'aki deeply asleep and supress
it's powers in full. If not, she'll continually try to leave and head to the lake.)
Cultists: The Cultists are busy preparing Ellie with different spells and
markings on her skin, so she can be sent off to the Larval Cloud for sacrifice.
(Unless found before 5th night, they'll have sent Ellie out to the lake followed
along to seek a boon for their work.)
-------------------------------------Day 1 - Monday 9th of October 1920
Patrick Thorne: He invites the PCs and the other investigator group to eat
at the local dinner and discuss the details of his request.
Librarian: The University is open and so is the library, so our lovely librarian
is of course at work and available should one wish to ask some questions to
her.
Charles Wellington: As with the Librarian herself, Charles is also busily at
work in the hidden forbidden section, so if found, he'd be accessible to talk
with from then on.
Other Investigation Party: The group of Daniel (22), Rich (30), Maria (26)
& Thadeus (51) arrives at the dinner that Patrick Thorne had mentioned,
showing plenty of panache and 'we know something the rest of you do not'.

Night 1
Cultists: A pair of cultists have entered the town in the night and
accidentally disturbs the Investigators enough to leave a possible trail to
follow.
Other Investigation Party: The OIP have been almost cross-examining the

police about details and their current leads pertaining to the missing people.
Not much is gained by their attempt. They'll begin showing up when the PCs
find something curious or noteworthy to help them find Ellie.
