Pipe Fitter job description

Plan, layout, install, test and repair all size of stainless steel pipes in accordance with all
applicable plans, specifications, codes and industrial standards.
Must be able to read and understand plans and specifications, including isometric and
orthographic drawings. Visualize two dimension drawings in three dimensions.
Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary
corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
Use appropriate hand and power tools to fit and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular
products; cut or drill holes in walls to permit passage of pipes; select specified type and size of
pipe; mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings to hold pipe; install valves, couplings
and other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe; and lift, position and secure
materials and work pieces during installation.
Utilizes all pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems and pipe
couplings including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, victaulic, grooved, glued and fused
joints
Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education: High School Equivalence


Experience 5 years' experience as pipe fitter.
Communication Skills Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and
then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to insure
you understand the information given.
Must have a working knowledge of pipe-fitting techniques and methods.
Must be able to work with carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, poly/HDPE, copper, and various
high pressure/temperature alloys
Must be proficient in the use of bevelers, threaders and other end prep machines.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and
accurately.

Ability to work up to 12 hour shift in all weather and temperature extremes.
Ability to frequently lift and/or push or pull up to 15 kgs and occasionally lift and/or push or pull up
to 25 kgs.
Vision adequate to perform all required tasks.
Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas.
Ability to work over 5 feet above the ground; must not have fear of heights.

Employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, elevated work areas, and outside
weather conditions.

Employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area.
