CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction
Quality education always produce high quality students who eventually become
very competitive professionals in line with their chosen fields. But several factors can be
attributed to this. One of these is the supply of equipments, especially in Engineering
departments.Shortage of lab equipments almost always affects the performance of
students. Universities with well-equipped laboratory apparatus were among the top
placers in board exams. BPSU (ECE Department) ranked only number 10 in board
passers compared to La salle, PUP, and MAPUA. It's never too late, to do something
better, for our ECE Department. The university need to acquire better equipments if not
the best to assist the students in their laboratory work. Afterall, ECE students will benefit
to this.
Statement of the Problem
The researchers aim to know the effects of lack in ECE equipments specially on
how it affects the students.
Specifically, the research seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the students based on the following:
1.1 age;

1.2 sex and

1.3 religion?
2. How does the lack of equipments affect the following:
2.1 ECE students;
2.2 ECE board passers in BPSU and
2.3 teaching strategies of professors?
3. How it affects the students' learning process when there are less equipments?
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
The research study will only focus on the effects of the shortage of equipments in
the ECE Laboratory in Bataan Peninsula State University on Students that are taking up
the course of Electronics and communications Engineering specifically those who are
enrolled in a subject that has the necessity of the use of the ECE laboratory and
instructors who are using the ECE Lab. as a workplace to perform the task to educate the
ECE Students in their enrolled subject. As of now, there are 419 ECE students from 1 st
year to 5th year in BPSU whereas only 30 will be chosen as respondents.
Significance of the Study
The research will be significant to all concerned in using laboratory equipment for
their program particularly the following: ECE students, other students using ECE lab,
teachers, parents and future researchers.

ECE students. They may benefit the most since they are the focus of the study.
The study may serve as an eye-opener on how equipment affects their academic
performance, acquiring of knowledge, and level of competitiveness. They may realize
how it affects ones willingness to go through this profession. They wont take advantage
of the equipment in the laboratory and use it for non-sense stuff. Instead, they will use it
for effective and efficient learning. The study may also help them lessen the lack of
knowledge of students in new technologies and software that continue to arise.
Other students using ECE lab. Other students may also use laboratory when it
comes to computer subject. The study may also help them realize how lucky they are to
use laboratory equipment and how important it is to gain more knowledge.
Teachers. The study may help them for practicing their profession. It may also
bring them more knowledge about proper learning strategies. They may give the student
the right way for learning and the joy of studying through different individual exercises
using laboratory equipment. They may provide what is needed by the students and they
may help the student to get higher grades.
Parents. The study may help them by informing them the needs of their
child/children. The study may be their basis on why students lack knowledge. They may
utilize the findings to lead them in a better way in guiding their children.
Future researchers. The study may help them in doing future researches to come
up in better findings. They may use this study as a source and may have an important
contribution to the development of chosen topic. The study provided much information
so they may utilize it for the information they need.
