Unit 3 Outcome 1
Key Knowledge:

in the studio process
the characteristics of
selected materials that
will communicate ideas
and be explored in the
studio process
the techniques to be
used in the studio process
that will communicate

range of different art

materials, techniques,
and processes.

Today we will begin a series of

workshops to familiarise
yours4elves with a range of
materials, some you may have
used, and some you may not
have. We will learn a variety of
different methods to experiment
with the materials and push
them to see what kind of effects
we can discover.

Key Skills:
explain the materials to
be explored
explain the techniques
to be explored and
propose how these may
support the
communication of ideas
explain the selection of
materials and techniques
Formative Assessment:
Ask probing questions to
determine what kinds of
materials students are
familiar with, and with
which materials,
techniques and processes.

Closure
Which material/s did you enjoy
working with the most?
Which did you find the most
challenging?
What kind of skills have you
learnt?
Which materials do you think
you would like to pursue in your
work? Why?
Was there any material you feel
like you need another workshop
on?
We will spend the next few
lessons experimenting with a
range of different materials both
traditional and contemporary.
We will focus on building up our
skills with understanding how to
use the materials, then we will
start experimenting and
pushing them to see what we
can get them to do by
combining and exploiting them.

mixing materials.

Learning Intention
check:
Why is it important to
explore different art
forms throughout my
design process?
Success Criteria
Check:
Cold call a studentName 3 materials we
used today?
Cold call another
student:
Which materials did
you combine and what
was the effect?

Formative Assessment
through probing questions
about the workshop and
students ability to
effectively use each
material.
