Mock Election
Power Point: France Under King Louis XIV

Why this matters

America was designed as a republic with three coequal branches of government. However,
over the decades the role of the president has become more and more powerful. At the
same time, other elected leaders, such as Vladimir Putin in Russia, are using the tools of
democracy to wield significant autonomous power. As the world is increasingly dominated
by strong individual leaders, its a good idea to look back at history and some of the ways
strong leaders impacted previous generations.
