FAQ Standard Service Canopy

LDV / Pickup / Makes : Our new standard design fits most of the bakkies on the

market and is interchangeable between makes and models (Toyota, Ford,

Mazda, Isuzu, Amarok)
Other models that is not interchangeable with other vehicles, and therefore cannot be fitted
with a VestronoX canopy:
Chev Utility (half ton)
GWM Steed
JMC Boarding
Nissan NP300, Nissan NP200 (half ton)
Toyota Land Cruiser
Tata Workhorse
2.2

Manufacture
The main construction material is 2mm and 3mm aluminium plate. Major components are
CNC cut to size. The unique feature of this canopy is that it is bonded together with
strategically placed fasteners. No structural welding is done on the canopy and the only
welding is for cosmetic reasons. Why bonding the canopy together? Bonding technology is
widely used in the manufacturing industry of motor vehicles, busses, planes. We have
designed our canopy to take full advantage of the lightweight benefits of aluminium.
Bonding the panels together ensures a load spread over entire joining surface and not in a
localised area of a weld or rivet. This also absorbs any vibrations and increases the integrity
of our Service Canopy
The doors comprise of an outer aluminium skin, with reinforced hard points for the hinges,
lock and gas struts.
The heavy duty pressure leaver locks ensure positive pressure on the rubber seals when
locked. Keyed alike locks are used for your convenience 1 key for all locks on your Service
Canopy. Stainless steel telescopic rails are used on all drawers in your Service Canopy,
ensuring ease of operation with each of the top drawers with its own securing latch.

2.3

Installation
Your Service Canopy is designed so that the complete weight of the Service Canopy and
contents rests on the base of the load bin and not on the top rim of the vehicle load bin.
We endeavour to utilise existing mounting holes to fit the Service Canopy, this is however
not always possible and we seldom have to drill new mounting holes. All holes drilled are
cleaned out and treated with an anti-rusting agent.

2.4

Production time
Approximately 15 workdays, depending on quantity, please confirm when placing an order.

2.5

DIY Fitment
Our products can be delivered by courier to remote areas, and can easily be fitted onto a
vehicle following our detailed installation instructions. All electrical connections need to be
carried out by a qualified auto electrician to ensure proper functionality of you Service
Canopy and avoid any unnecessary damage to the electrical circuitry of your vehicle.

FAQ Re-fitment
Our new design offers you an extended use of your canopy if re-fitted to one of the bigger
bakkies as mentioned in point 2.1; or re-fitted on same model vehicles with the same load
bin dimensions. A consultation and quote must be requested for this item.

Care and Maintenance

6.1

Aluminium product
Aluminium is prone to corrosion when it comes into contact with acidic substances. In the
event of accidental contact, wash and rinse the aluminium thoroughly.
Your canopy must be rinsed immediately after it has been subjected to sea water or salt
spray, just as you would do with any vehicle.

6.2

Gas struts
The gas struts are imported from Australia and while no maintenance is required on this
superb example of fine Australian precision, it has a limited lifespan. In the event that oil is
detected on the shaft of the strut, it has reached the end of its lifespan and must be
replaced.

6.3

Hinges
Hinges must be greased every six months

6.4

Locks
The locks are imported from Italy and subjected to vigorous quality checks by chubby
singing Italian tenors.

6.5

Rubbers
The vulcanised rubber used requires no maintenance but will need replacement when wear
and tear such as perforating and cracks are noticed.

6.6

Cleaning

6.8

Your Service Canopy does not require more special attention than what you would give your
vehicle.
Servicing
Your canopy should ideally be serviced by us every two years. The service may include the
replacement of rubbers, damaged rails, worn gas struts, locks, spray painting, and general
cleaning of the canopy. A quote must be requested for this.
Telescopic rails
Telescopic rails are manufactured in Indonesia by Rails Inc.
The loading weight limit is 30kg for top drawers and 60kg for load bin drawers. Rails must be
kept clean at all times, with no debris or obstacles in the rail path.
When opening and closing the drawers, refrain from jerking the drawers. Jerking the
drawers will reduce the life span of the rails. Use a smooth pulling motion instead.

More information on materials used

Aluminium:
Aluminium is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery
white, soft, nonmagnetic, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen
and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the
Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and
limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals.
The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.
Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the
phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the
aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most
useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulphates
Physical
Aluminium is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, ductile and malleable metal with appearance ranging
from silvery to dull grey, depending on the surface roughness. It is nonmagnetic and does not easily
ignite. A fresh film of aluminium serves as a good reflector (approximately 92%) of visible light and an
excellent reflector (as much as 98%) of medium and far infrared radiation. The yield strength of pure
aluminium is 711 MPa, while aluminium alloys have yield strengths ranging from 200 MPa to 600 MPa.
Aluminium has about one-third the density and stiffness of steel. It is easily machined, cast, drawn and
extruded.
Aluminium is a good thermal and electrical conductor, having 59% the conductivity of copper, both
thermal and electrical, while having only 30% of copper's density. Aluminium is capable of being a
superconductor, with a superconducting critical temperature of 1.2 Kelvin and a critical magnetic field of
about 100 gauss (10 milliteslas).
Chemical
Corrosion resistance can be excellent due to a thin surface layer of aluminium oxide that forms when the
metal is exposed to air, effectively preventing further oxidation. The strongest aluminium alloys are less
corrosion resistant due to galvanic reactions with alloyed copper. This corrosion resistance is also often
greatly reduced by aqueous salts, particularly in the presence of dissimilar metals.
In highly acidic solutions aluminium reacts with water to form hydrogen and in highly alkaline ones to
form aluminates protective passivation under these conditions is negligible. Also, chlorides such as
common sodium chloride are well-known sources of corrosion of aluminium and are among the chief
reasons that household plumbing is never made from this metal.
However, owing to its resistance to corrosion generally, aluminium is one of the few metals that retain
silvery reflectance in finely powdered form, making it an important component of silver-coloured paints.
Aluminium mirror finish has the highest reflectance of any metal in the 200400 nm (UV) and the 3,000
10,000 nm (far IR) regions; in the 400700 nm visible range it is slightly outperformed by tin and silver
and in the 7003000 (near IR) by silver, gold, and copper.[14]
Aluminium is oxidized by water at temperatures below 280C to produce hydrogen, aluminium
hydroxide and heat. This conversion is of interest for the production of hydrogen.
