Face wash contains mainly; soap solution, coconut oil/olive oil, water, lavender
oil, activated charcoal, honey. The soap solution can be made naturally using
wood ash, lime and water which serves as a lye.
To make the soap solution naturally, we use hard woods as soft woods are too
resinous to mix with fats. The type of wood which is used in making lye is oak
wood. Take a wooden container and make a small hole at the bottom wide
enough to pass water but not wood ashes. Fill the bottom of container with river
stones which act as a filtration system. Transfer the ashes (mixed with 3% lime)
into the container and pass hot water. We use hot water instead of cold water as
it draws more potash from wood ash which in turn makes the lye stronger. While
doing this process, the bottom hole of the container is kept closed. We wait for
the next day to perform the same process and by the next day, out ash gets
settled which allows us to add more ash and water. Next day, the bung is
removed and lye is allowed to flow through. In this way we get our lye solution.
The lye solution is added slowly to water and wait for some time to cool down as
lot of heat is generated. The method is further continued by adding coconut oil
and hence we get the soap solution.
The above obtained soap solution is now ready to be used for making facewash.
For making face wash, we first take a container and pour soap solution in it. Next
we add honey to maintain pH of the solution and moreover it is good for the
smooth skin. We now add activated charcoal as it adsorbs dust particles present
on the skin. Next we lavender oil for better smell as well as it doesnt let the skin
dry. Neem is now added for anti-bacterial effects. The above solution is shaken
and mixed well.
The above made liquid cleanser is ready for use and packaging. For packaging,
we use Rubber Packaging with an inner layer of Latex.
