Writing Prompt 2
A moment that I can remember when shaping my literacy narrative was when I was
obsessed with buying books. When I was little, my family would always take me out on their
errands and visit multiple club stores. In Maryland there is a large wholesale club called BJs
where almost everything is sold for a seriously low price. My dad would take his list and begin
to search the store, while my mom and I visited the children section. As a little kid you are
interested in everything you set your eyes on; curiosity is a natural part of a young childs life.
The childrens toys were sectioned right behind a large rack of clearance books. Instead of
pulling my moms arm towards the toys, I would lead her to the vast number of books. I
remember being so excited to pick up a book and begin to read, making up the words and stories
as I went along. Finally, I found the entire Twilight series for an affordable price. I was able to
read and enjoy the entire series while on my family vacation and in the comfort of my home.
Reading those thick books really helped me open up as a person as well as improve my literacy
narrative. As I got older my love for books grew. I began to go to my schools library often and
check out multiple books. I even began to write novels of my own that had to do with romance,
adventure, and mystery. This experience as a kid has helped me realize how important it is to
shape your literacy narrative and continue to learn more about reading and writing.
