Cc: Vice Principal Dr. JNai Gilbert-Collins From: Joseph D. Johnson- Teacher Librarian and Instructional Technology Specialist (LMTS) Date: 11/10/16 Re: 2016-2017 Ga DOE Library Media Center Program Self-Evaluation Otis J. Brock, III. Elementary has just recently completed the 2015 Ga DOE Library Media Center Program Self-Evaluation. This rubric is broken into six different areas with subcategories for each. Listed below are the results of the rubric and ways I believe we can utilize to raise up the rank. In the table below, B is Basic, P is Procient, and E is Exemplary.
Category 1- Student Achievement and Instruction
Indicator
Rank
Action Steps
1. Information Literacy Standards
2. Collaborative Planning
3. Media Specialist is engaged in active
teaching
As the LMTS, I am working with the
teachers to collaborate using our learning labs, online created modules for various grade-levels, and use of our Google TV to augment curriculum and add information literacy to what they are learning. I intend to get better with this as more teachers become interested and I can have more resources created.
4. Media center resources support
reading
The LMS will meet with ELA and Reading
teachers to discuss curriculum maps, and lesson plans to know what books/novels the teacher will use for each semester. The LMS can then pull resources for extended learning and activities that support the efforts of the classroom teacher. The LMS can then come into the classroom to promote certain activities and books related to the current unit or lesson.
Category 3- Staffing 9a. State mandated library service requirement
9b. State mandated full time library
media specialist requirement
Currently, having to trouble shoot
technology that is broken from the move, taking inventory, and being sure all items are present has cut into time in the library. Currently, I have a .5 that comes twice to three times weekly.
Category 4- Facilities, Access and Resources
10. Flexible Scheduling
11. Square footage requirement
12. Streaming video throughout school
13.Print and non print resources and
access to online information
14. Efficient resource management and
access to OPAC
15. GALILEO access and instruction
Category 5- Administrative Support
16. County media liaison appointed
17. County/ Administrative support of a
strong library program
All drops have been put in, also a Grant for
new broadcast material has been accepted and new equipment is arriving.
LMTS will begin pushing Galileo more and
integrate it even more in research projects with help from the teachers. Ongoing training will continue to try and raise this to an E.
18. Library media committee
established
19. Library media Policy is current
20. Library media budget is allocated
Working on gathering a library media
committee and am in the process of organizing it. I plan for this committee to evaluate the library program on a regular basis, help reach out to stake holders, and to insure the library can reach the potential of a collaboration space for reading, research, and technological collaboration projects.
