‘COURSE. THESIS PROJECT
PROJECT LOCATION: MILANO
The thesis addresses some of emerging problems in
the Milanese context, as well as the potential for
vercoming them. Urban growth is followed by air
pollution and scarcity of green areas, while water is
recognized a8 a significant historical element, seen as.
an opportunity for future development and
reconnection. Potential for reconnecting is also found
in areas which are neglected and unused, while at the
same time, the city is having — insufficient
accornmadation capacity for students.
The objective is to find a single response that relates
previously detected problems in the way they annul
each other. The solution proposed in the thesis is a
sustainable student neighborhood
Based on qualification of major unused areas in the
sity. the area of San Cristoforo is chosen to be
redeveloped as a sustainable student neighborhood
Formerly unused and neglected, San Cristofore area
becomes new rieighborhood for growing number of
students. Simultaneously, proposed project aims to
reach the highest level of urban and architectural
sustainability, by referring to lessons from the most
successful examples in the contemporary practice.
While on urban seale the project exolores ways to use
landscape design and potential for generating and
saving energy for the well-being af the entire
neighborhead. on the architectural level. the project
aims to integrate vibrant social life with sustainable
uilding technology. This finally leads to the
architectural outcome- Parkline Library of San
Cristofero, which becomes a new generator of
knowledge and creativity while demonstrating
awareness and sensitive approach towards the living
environmentENVIRONMENTAL

Trifoglio area is a part of the
Politecnico Gi Milano univer-
sity campus, but it is not a
place where students prefer
to stay. Instead, they just
rather pass through the vast
porely defined space in
order to reach different facil
ities in the campus.
By temoving __ existing
boundaries in various ways
adding spaces for relaxation
and studying and by
improving ambiental quali-
ties, project reimagines trifo-
lio area not only as a cosy
space for students in the
campus, but as a new city
public space open to all the
citizens of Milan as well.Urban Carpet
Urban carpet serves as a
beckground that _ inte-
grates people, nature
and a which
leads to unified but
diverse design solution.
Touch of nature
aispersed green surfaces
integrated with the
pavement, area covered
with trees, water surface
for refreshment and
canopies that protect
studying areas from the
sun, are the elements
that corrispond to the
needs for susteinability
and ambience of the
space.
Activity hub
Transformed space
becomes not merely a
space for students but a
city hub providing a
variety of activities that
can be accessed by all
the citizens.
