Newly Chartered Chapter of PRSSA Forms at West Georgia
PRSSA is seeking students interested in engulfing themselves into the Public Relations field to
consider joining this club.
CARROLLTON, GAThe Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA) has granted
approval for a chapter to be created at The University of West Georgia. The University of West
Georgias PRSSA chapter is encouraging all students to look into the advantages it can have to
their careers and educations by joining the organization.
PRSSA allows students the opportunity to develop professional knowledge and skills. In
PRSSA, you will be able to participate in workshops, service activities, volunteer work with
public relations firms/agencies, networking opportunities, and so much more. PRSSA plans to
organize a student-run public relations firm in the future that would help clients meet their
communications needs.

Students interested in public relations will have the opportunity to expand their
academic and classroom experiences to learn from some of the nations leading communicators
through our relationships with PRSA Georgia said Hazel Cole, one of the organizations coadvisors.
West Georgias PRSSA is a new initiative of the Department of Mass Communications.
The Department of Mass Communications has been working over the past several years to
ensure the program was well-positioned to apply for a charter. Since being granted that charter,
Jacob Hawkins of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide is the chapters professional advisor.
Membership in West Georgias chapter of PRSSA is available to any student, regardless
of major or classification. Initial membership dues are $75 while renewing membership dues are
$60. Applications to join are open in the fall or spring semesters. Annual membership dates are
Nov. 1- Oct.31 or Mar.1 Feb. 28/29 for members joining in the spring.
The chapter is a great opportunity for any student of any major interested in PR. There is
so much available to students by joining the chapter said Justin Monsewicz, the current PRSSA
President at West Georgia.
-The University of West Georgia was granted a charter in August 2011 to begin the West Georgia
PRSSA chapter. West Georgia PRSSA is not credited as an organization, instead it a unit within
the Department of Mass Communications. PRSSA offers opportunities for students to develop
professional knowledge and skills within the Public Relations field and beyond.
