Configuring Cisco Catalyst 35xx/27xx Switches for Livewire

Introduction
EthernetswitchesintendedforuseinconstructingAxiaLivewireIPAudionetworksmustbe
properlypreconfiguredtoproviderequiredmulticastfilteringandqualityofservice(QoS)
features.ThisdocumentexplainstherequiredstepstoconfigureCisco2960switchspecifically.
ThesecommandsmaybeapplicabletoothermembersoftheCatalystproductlinethatsupport
thesesamecommands.
Forinitialconfigurationofthedevice,youcanusePuTTy,whichisafreeprogramthatallowsyou
toconnecttotheswitcheitherviaaTelnetsession,orthroughaserialportandconsolesession.If
thisisthefirsttimetheswitchhasbeenconfigured,youwillhavetoconnecttotheswitchviaa
consolecableandserialconnectiontoenterintotheExpressSetup.Duringtheinitialsetup,you
willassigntheswitchanIPaddress,whichwillthenallowyoutoconnecttotheswitchviaaTelnet
session.PuTTycanbeusedonbothx86andx64bitsystems,andcanbedownloadedhere
http://www.putty.org/
IGMPisafunctionthatyouwillbesettinguponthisswitch,andfortheIGMPquerierprocessto
workproperlytheswitchshouldbeassignedthelowestIPaddressinyourLivewiresubnet.Please
refertoyourCiscoswitchmanualforadditionalinformationaboutExpressSetupandthe
commandlineinterface.

configuringyourswitch,youmustuseFaorGiaccordingly(e.g.:fa0/1orgi0/1).Switches
thatcanbestackedtogether(the3750hasthiscapability)havetheportsidentifiedby3digits
(e.g.gi1/0/1)wherethefirstdigitidentifiesthestackmembernumber.Onnonstackable
switches(like3560),only2digitsareused(e.g.fa0/1).Thelastdigitspecifiesactualport
