and method for a refrigeration system, providing for short term response to reduce ripples on a
power grid. (1)The study aimed to reduce losses of energy due to ripples, especially at the
power grid, the ripples being short term power shortages or excess power. The method is based
on the idea of shutting off energy consuming devices during a period of power shortage, if their
operation is not necessary, and optionally to turn on such energy consuming devices during
periods of excess power, if energy may be stored in them, especially when energy may be stored
as some physical parameter or variable, being a part of the operation of the energy consuming
devices.
Richard Lee Roi Diercks, Robert Lee Parrott, Electronic refrigeration and air conditioner
monitor and alarm. (2)An electronic refrigeration and air conditioner monitor and alarm system
monitors air conditioning and refrigeration systems for inefficiencies that waste energy. The
device monitors and analyzes the temperatures of the suction line of such systems for variances
that indicate malfunctions or abnormal operation of the system. The device provides both an
audible and visual alert to warn the end user that the equipment is in need of maintenance and or
repair.
Hidetoshi Kanazawa, Inverter controlled air conditioner capable of effectively reducing a
rush current at starting . 1993 This invention provides an inverter controlled air conditioner
capable of employing a rush current preventing relay having a small capacitance, thereby
decreasing the cost. An inverter circuit includes a rectifying circuit connected to an AC power
supply, a smoothing capacitor connected to the output terminals of the rectifying circuit, and a

switching circuit, connected to the two terminals of the capacitor, for outputting a voltage having
a predetermined frequency upon performing switching. An auxiliary power supply circuit has a
rectifying circuit connected to the AC power supply. A control section drives the switching
circuit with an output from the rectifying circuit as the operation volt age. Relay drive circuits for
receiving the output from the rectifying circuit as the operation voltage are connected to an
electromagnetic contactor and a relay. When the air conditioner is started, the control section
energizes the relay for a predetermined period of time t, through the relay drive circuits and
thereafter energizes the electromagnetic contactor. Normally-open contacts of the
electromagnetic contactor are connected between the AC power supply and the inverter circuit.
The capacitor of the inverter circuit is connected to the output terminals of the rectifying circuit
of the auxiliary power supply circuit through a resistor and normally open contacts of the relay.

particularly, to an inverter controlled air conditioner having an inverter control circuit for
effectively reducing a rush current at starting.
Yukifumi Gotou,Inverter-aided multisystem air conditioner with control functions of
refrigerant distribution and superheating states.(4)This study generally relates to an air
conditioner which comprises a single outdoor unit and a plurality of indoor units and, more
particularly, to an inverter-aided multisystem air conditioner with control functions of refrigerant
distribution and superheating states. A microcomputer of the multi-controller is used for
controlling both the refrigerant and the electrical systems. Another microcomputer is used for
each of the indoor and outdoor units, as in the ordinary inverter air-conditioners.In the system
operation, the microcomputer of the indoor unit first detects the present difference between room
temperature and a desired room temperature as preset by the operating unit (of remote control

type), and calculates a necessary cooling capacity, and determines a corresponding operating
condition, and sends operation commands for start/stop, cooling/heating mode, and operating
frequency, which are prepared on the basis of the determined operating condition.

J. Bongaards, Zdenek Kaiser, Weniger. Alternator / inverter refrigeration unit.(5) This study
aimed to the method of powering a refrigeration system. This method includes providing a mover
and an alternator, the alternator being coupled to the mover and generating a power signal. The
method also includes monitoring at a control a plurality of system parameters and sending a
control signal based on the system parameters from the control. The method further includes
receiving the power signal and the control signal at an inverter-based device which has a
plurality of inverters, converting the power signal into a controlled power signal based on the
control signal, and driving a plurality of components of the refrigeration system with the
controlled power signal, which are also controlled by the control.
William J. Barbier. Refrigeration control system for modulating electrically-operated
expansion valves. (6) This study relates generally to a control system for modulating
electrically-operated expansion valves. A refrigeration control system for modulating an
electrically-operated expansion valve in which a modulating, electrically-operated expansion
valve is connected to the evaporator inlet, and first and second condition-responsive electrical
sensors are positioned to respond to conditions at selected location in the system. An electrical
amplifier circuit connects the condition-responsive electrical sensors to the valve for regulating
the opening and closing of the valve in response to differences in the conditions sensed by the
sensors. Refrigerant is fed to at least one of the sensors so as to cause modulation of the
expansion valve. More particularly, the condition-responsive sensors are temperature-responsive,

the first sensor being positioned to respond to the temperature of the liquid refrigerant expanded
to suction pressure, and the second sensor being positioned to respond to suction line sensible
temperature. The valve will then modulate to control superheat in response to the differences in
the temperatures sensed by the sensors.
