DEFINION OF TERMS --

Base Lift Weight


This is the lift weight calculated, on the basis of the MT0
without the application of any factors for item estimating
accuracy, design changes. f a b r i c a t i o n w e i g h t g r o w t h o r
dynamic effects.

2.1.2

Factored Lift Weight


This is the lift weight calculated on the basis of the MT0
including the relevant factors for the estimating accuracy,
design changes and fabrication weight growth, but with no
allowance for dynamics.

2.1.3

Design Lift Weight


T h i s i s t h e l i f t w e i g h t c a l c u l a t e d oa t h e b a s i s o f the
factored lift weight (2.1.2) with an additional factor
related t o t h e d y n a m i c ,characteristics o f t h e l i f t i n g
operation.
In lieu of any specific data a factor of 1.33
should be applied to account for the dynamic characteristic!
of the lift.
This factor applies to Global structure design as well as
padeye + local structure design.

F o r c a s e s w h e r e t h e r i g g i n g configuration has redundancy, an
allowance shall be made in the calculation of sling load e.g. for 4
slings to + common block a 75% - 25% load distribution in diagonal

be submitted for approval by SSB.

JACKETS
When selecting slings for jacket lifts where the rigging arrangement
has redundancy, (e.g. 4 slings to a common block) it shall be
assumed that only three slings are active.

6.2 Permissible Stresses
Permissible stresses shall be as defined in A.I.S.C. with the
following additional requirements :Transfer of stresses through the thickness of the plate shall not be
allowed unless the material has through thickness properties. In
this instance through thickness stresses shall be limited to 0.2 Fy.

Bearing stress shall be found by dividing the lifting attachment
des!gn load by the product of the diameter of the pin and padeye
width (main plate plus twice the ctive cheek plate thickness).

6.5

Cheek Plates_
The effective thickness of each cheek plate shall be limited to the
smallest value of :
1)

Half of the main plate thickness.

ii)

The actual cheek plate thickness.

Due attention should be paid to weld accessibility. The clearance,


from the face of the cheek plate ,to,the face of the. shackle shall be
a minimum of 10% and a rnti of 20% of the shackle width, (see Figure
1).

Pull Out Shear

The minimum distance from the edge of the pinhole to the edge of
the main plate shall be one pinhole diameter.
Sling Clearance

,&p?@ A minimum clearance of 0.5 x sling diameter shall be provided


between the outside of the sling passing through the shackle and
the edge of the padeye main plate. (See Figure 1X-l).
6.10.5

Weld Clearance
Clearance should exist between the full penetration butt weld
attaching the main plate to themain leg tubular or main beam and
the fillet weld around the cheek plate.
In order to achieve
sufficient clearance the distance between the edge of the cheek
plate and the edge of the main tubular (or beam) should be at
least the main plate thickness plus llhqa.

7.0

TRUNNION TYPE LIFTING POINTS


Trunnions shall be designed following the criteria of Section 6.
However the side loading shall be minimum of 5I of the lifting
attachment design load applied perpendicular to the trunnion at
the extremity of the keeper plate. An additional out of balance

applying 45% of the lifting attachment design load in one sling
and 55% in the other sling.
The following criteria (see Figure IX-Z) shall be adhered to :

be considered as resisting the load. The diameter of the
pipe will be three times the required sling diameter.
