Nahuatl origin,Alegra means Stone Lagoon". Beautiful and welcoming tourist

paradise that transports you to a place with amazing Salvadoran beautiful town full
of surprises to discover the treasure hidden that have this township. Alegria
Township is located north of Usulutan, about 142 km from San Salvador and 28km
north of the provincial capital.
How to get?
By car: on the Panamerican Highway, taking
the road that leads to Alegria Mercedes Umaa;
and the Coastal Highway, taking the road
leading from Usulutan to the town of Santiago
de Mara.
Bus routes: If you are from San Salvador to Usulutn, take Route 302 and your
ticket is $ 1.50. Then, being already in Usulutan, you take Route 348, which will
lead to Alegria and your ticket is $ 0.35; This route can take in Berlin and Santiago
de Maria.
Customs and traditions
Festivities: The celebration of festivals is from 26 to 29 June and fiestas titulares
are celebrated from 26 to 29 September, in honor of San Miguel Archangel.
Mythologies
Legend has it that once a year, a boy lost in the lagoon, the main reason for the
disappeared is a Creole mermaid that traps him in his men through his singing and
beauty.
Others say that in the middle of the lake there is a "mermaid" that sucks the poor
who dare to swim in its waters. Today the "Little Mermaid" has to be migrated,
because there is almost no water.
There are others who claim that according to legend Lagoon Joy, there is a
mermaid who lives in the depths of the waters, who likes handsome men and

youth. If anyone bathing in the lagoon and the mermaid falls in love with them,

Crafts and Gastronomy
