Reflection on First Feedback from MST


Lesson: Division with removing zeros (lesson 1).
Regards the first week in AlQasemeya School, I was teaching students in grade five on
Wednesday. It was my first observation in this teaching practice. My MST provides me with
feedback, suggestions, and recommendation.

However, as it is first class with five graders, the management of the class was not too
much work. Students were talkative and moving around. I was trying to control them by
reinforcing them positively. It was hard for me because it is the first time teaching division. I
believe that the concept needs focus, and young learners do not listen. So, what I think about is
that the next class, try to catch their attention and hold them on by changing the intonation of
my voice. While in the first class I implement management cards for each group (figure 1). In
the next class, I will make an individual management also.

Regarding the core of the lesson, I gave students one example to model for them the
concept of math lesson (figure 3). I think it was not working with students, because students
need more than one example to do with the teacher. However, I must scaffold this part of the
lesson and focus on it for learners. In the explanation part, the teacher must give more than
two examples at least. Next time, I will model for them four cases until they can do the last two
examples with me in whole grouping class. I will practice more than one division operation to
understand it very well, and then I will deliver it for students using creative things.

In the post-stage, I gave students cards, and the hint that my MST gives it to me is that
the cards were very small. But, the activity was appropriate for them because I differentiate
between the most difficult questions and easy division problems.

On the other hands, the positive things and the strength that I did in the class are that
reviewing, a good grouping of students while doing activities. I found that the grouping of

students depends on students skills to work in activity. As it was the first class, it was an
experiment to teach grade five which they are high grader. Then, I must use the things that are
work and fix the things that do not function with them.

Finally, it was my first observation, and it is normal that my MST gives me more
restrictive things to do it properly next time. She was encouraged me by giving me the
weakness point then provides me with suggestions. She was open to listening to my
recommendations also to do next time.
