Delivery:

Input will be in the form of lectures and follow-up tutorial discussions. Most
lectures will be illustrated with PowerPoint slides. Students will be expected to
read independently outside class, and to research background when requested
by the lecturer. Tutorials will include small group discussion exercises so that
students can practise what has been introduced in the lectures.

This course aims to:


1. Provide the theoretical foundations of teaching using literary texts
2. Expose students to the various techniques and methods of teaching
literature
3. Give an understanding of how to adapt, use and construct materials for the
teaching of literature
4. Expose students to the ways of assessing literature in the language
classroom

11. Learning
Outcomes:

At the end of the course, students will be able to:


1. Explain and apply the concepts and principles of teaching literature in the

language classroom
2. Construct and use materials appropriately in the teaching of literature
3. Explain and apply the principles involved in the assessment of students in
the literature class

4. Plan and write out a lesson plan using literary texts appropriately for

language teaching and learning
