This will be written IN CLASS on November 15th!

The IQ (intelligence quotient) was created in 1912 by William Stern

to measure one's level of human intelligence. His method is one of the
most widely used when describing intelligence. But later on in 1983
Howard Gardner founded another theory on intelligence, his theory

called Howard Gardner's 9 multiple intelligences stated that there

were 9 main intelligences that either produced products or offers, solve
problems, and gather knowledge, they are (without going into too
much detail), language, math/logical, musical, bodily, spatial, natural,
personal, social, and existential. Later on in 1990 another theory like
William Sterns IQ was created, it was called EQ(emotional quotient) it
was defined by the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions.
In the short story Flowers for Algernon, Charlie of man with a
learning disability and low IQ around 60 has difficulty learning. Lower
than average, this is shown when Charlie says, Ill get in a few minits
becaus Im not so fast somtimes(pg 673). This quote shows that Charlie
is not only slow when it comes to observing and processing he is also
not a good speller. This proves that his IQ is below average for
someone his age. Along with his IQ his EQ is also slower than average.
Charlie has great self-esteem, but he could not process that people
were making fun of him which makes his EQ low. Towards the middle
of the story the reader can start to observe that Charlies IQ and EQ

increases. Evidence for this point is when Charlie says I beat Algernon
(Pg 682) his ability to beat Algernon in a race later on when he couldnt
before, thus proving that his IQ and mental capacity increased. His
interaction with Algernon also led reason to believe that his EQ also
increased i think i'll be friends with algernon (Pg 683), this quote is
evidence that Charlies EQ increased because he was able to empathize
or feel bad for Algernon.
Throughout the story Charlies IQ starts to rise and this is seen
through the increase in comprehension and the decrease in spelling
errors, he starts to understand the people around him and why they
think and act. But towards the end his mental state starts to decrease
to even worse than before the operation, to the point where he forgets
weeks at a time and cant even read what he wrote just a few weeks
before.
