LESSON: GRANDMA! GRANDPA!
TYPE OF LESSON: Acquiring new information (vocabulary: rooms; prepositions)
SKILLS: listening, speaking, reading, writing
OBJECTIVES:
-to introduce vocabulary related to rooms and parts of the house;
-to enable students to use prepositions of place (in, on, under)

METHODS: Explanations, dialogues, conversations


MATERIALS: textbook, Activity Book, flashcards, blackboard, CD
ORGANIZATIONS: individual work, pair work, group work

Activity 1: Warm up
Aim: To create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax the Ss
To get Ss involved in the topic
Procedure:
1 Informal conversation, greetings
2 Check if there are students missing
Interaction: T-Ss
Timing: 2 min

Activity 2: Checking the previous knowledge


Aim: to check previous knowledge
The T presents in front of the classroom a poster with pictures. The Ss are asked to
identify the toys and furniture from the pictures. Then the Ss are asked to come to
the board and point the objects learned in previous unit. T plays the song Come to
our playroom!
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T
Timing: 7 min
Activity 3: Lead in
Aim: to introduce the theme of the lesson My House
Procedure: T reads the title of the unit and elicits what the title is going to be
about. T gives handouts to Ss. She points and writes house and she presents the
rooms: bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen, living room and garden.
Individual pupils point to the picture in their handouts and read the
corresponding word.
T plays the chant on the CD again and asks the pupils to sing along
while miming.
Pupils open their course books and T explains the task from ex 2
page 28 where the pupils have to go through the pictures and elicit the rooms, then
the pupils act out similar conversations as in the example.

Activity 4: Listening and reading


Aim: to develop the pupils listening and reading skills
Procedure: T goes through the pictures of the dialogue with the pupils and set the
scene by asking questions: Who are they? Lulu and Larrys
T explains the task from ex 3 page 28 and plays the CD. The pupils
listen and complete the task. T checks the pupils answers: no
Pupils role play the dialogues.

Timing: 10 min
Activity 5: Practice
Aim: to present and practice prepositions of place
Procedure: T puts her pen on a book and asks the pupils: Wheres my pen?
Answer: on the book. She puts the pen in the book and repeats the same question,
then she presents the preposition under in the same way also explaining that
where is used when we ask for location.
T asks the pupils to take out their red, blue, brown, pink, yellow
coloured pencils, explains the task from ex 4 page 29 and plays the CD. Pupils
listen and colour in the picture. She checks the pupils answer.
T asks pupils to look at the picture from the handout and say where
each object is. Then pupils act out the dialogues as in the example.
T asks pupils to read and correct the given sentences from the same
handout by using the negative form of to be ( which they already learned it)

Activity 6: Homework assignment


Aim: to let Ss know what they have to do
Procedure:
T tells the Ss have to do exercise 7, page 31. Read and write the correct word
T praises all students for their participation during the entire lesson and
acknowledge their cooperation and work by giving a mark to the active pupils.
