Economic activities and population in The Republic of Indonesia


are concentrated in major urban areas such as Jakarta and Surabaya.
Jakarta, as the capital city of Indonesia, is the largest urban area with
the population around eight millions in the core of urban area. The
level of social and economic disparities in the city of Jakarta is very
high, it is seen from the slums area in some locations in Jakarta. As the
largest urban area, Jakarta has many potential tourist destinations
which can be tourism package, for example National Monument, The
Istiqlal Mosque and The Catholic Cathedral, and Beautiful Indonesia
Miniature Park. Slum tourism in Jakarta is a travel package or tourist
activities, hidden in the alleyways behind Jakarta's fancy malls and in
between the high-rise apartment. Jakarta Hidden Tour is the one of
slum tourism that offers the tourist to know more about people's life in
a slum of Jakarta through a personalized approach and social
interactions between the tourist and the local community besides it
also shows the Heritages of the several landmarks in this city.
Locations of Slum Area which are used as tourist sites vary according
to the needs and available time of the participants. Therefore, this
study aims to explain the spatial distribution of Jakarta hidden tour as
one of slum tourism along with physical, historical, and socioeconomical characteristics which is used as a tourist destination on
hidden tourism.
In the process to collect data using technique field research and study literature.
Field research has a purpose to get primer data. Field research was conducted by
determining the location of the sample point which refers to route of Jakarta Hidden
Tour, then conducted a survey and depth interview. While, Geographic Information
System (GIS) is used to plot the locations and landmarks in Jakarta Hidden Tour. Besides
that, study literature conducted by book, journal, and previous research which has related
to problem would be scrutinized. In the processing the data using spatial and descriptive
analysis. Spatial analysis is using overlay technique from ArcGIS software to processing
spatial data in the form of a map. Furthermore, Descriptive analysis with spatial approach

is used to explain the physical, historical, and socio-economical characteristics of the


spatial distribution.
The result shows that Jakarta Hidden Tour mainly distributed
near the port area and fish market, along Ciliwung riverbank, and near
railway.
