Step by Step Guide for

Configuring APC NetBotz Rack


Access
Objective
The purpose of this document is to provide DCM Operation Team / EMC-DELL
Operation Team an easy to follow guide on configuring APC Rack Access Card. It is
not a technical reference and 2nd level configuration which involves software
integration of that sort. This is for the purpose of enrolling the card to the rack to be
able to access the rack.

Pre-requisites
After installing all the peripherals like the magnetic door lock, sensors and other
necessary items which usually done by the vendor. We need the following in order
to execute the initial configuration.

Tools for configuration:


1. Laptop
2. Serial Cable:

3. UTP cable:

4. USB to Serial Cable:

5. Putty (or any terminal emulator)

Once all of this are acquired you need to connect your laptop to APC Netbotz using
the USBtoSerial Cable and connect it to the Serial cable then plug the other end to
the serial port of APC Netbotz as shown:

After connecting all the cables, you need to run putty to be able to connect to APC
Netbotz console configuration as shown:

Depending on how you set your USBtoSerial cable, you should check which COM
port it was assigned by going to your Device Manager and then use that Serial Line
in the the text box in the above image.

Once you check all that the setup is right as shown here, then click the Open Button
which will lead you in the below image:

Username: apc
Password: apc

This complete the initial setup, up next will be providing or identifying the IP that
you need to use to enter the web based program.

Console IP configuration:
Heres the step to assign or identify the default IP address provided by APC:
Once you enter the username and password, you will be directed to the main
console menu as shown:

Select 2 to enter the Network sub menu

Select 1 for TCP/IP

Select 1 to go to Boot Mode

Then select 4 to identify the default IP or configure a new static IP.

Once you decided whether you create your own IP list or use the default, you can
exit to the console and use a web browser to configure the card access by using the
IP information you have.

Web based configuration for enrolling APC Card:


Heres the step for adding / enrolling card to APC NetBotz:
Before opening a web browser and start configuring the APC NetBotz, you need to
set your Local Ethernet to have the same subnet with APC by doing the following:
Open Network Connection then select Local Area Connection, right click then
Properties:

Use Static configuration then use the same subnet and IP block of APC as shown
below as an example:

Connect one end of the Ethernet Cable to your laptop and the other end to APC
Ethernet Configuration port as shown below:

Open a web browser and enter the IP from the console IP information you have
before as shown:

UserName: apc
Password: apc

Click Log On
Once you enter the Main Menu, use the card and introduce it to the door lock as
shown:

After that go to Rack Access Tab to see the unknown card:

Select the unknown card to give it an access:

After that you should be able to use the card to access the configured rack. Do this
in all the rack you need to configure a card.
