Criteria for an academic staff or an expert from the industry to be appointed as CO-SUPERVISOR of a
PhD student
(a)
A professor; or
(b)
An Associate Professor with PhD or
without PhD; or
(c)
A PhD holder; or
(d)
An expert from the industry who is a PhD
holder

Masters student
(a)
A professor; or
(b)
An Associate Professor; or
(c)
A PhD holder; or
(d)
A Senior Lecturer of Grade DS52 or
DS51; or
(e)
An expert from the industry who is at
least a Masters holder

Nominations of the Main Supervisor, Co-Supervisor and Project Advisor must be endorsed by
the Facultys Committee for Graduate Studies.
Official appointments of the Main Supervisor, Co-Supervisor and Project Advisor will be made
by the Centre for Graduate Studies, UTHM.

The Facultys Committee for Graduate Studies can nominate candidates who do not meet the
criteria for supervisory roles with written justifications.
Any family ties established, including marriage, between a Supervisor and a student would
automatically nullify the supervisor-supervise relationship.
A current Supervisor who experiences a change of status such as from that of unrelated to
related with his/her student, must inform the Faculty and Centre for Graduate Studies
immediately for the necessary actions to be taken.
Nevertheless, it is strongly recommended that all Supervisors exercise the utmost discretion at
all times to avoid compromising ones professionalism and credibility in the supervision
process.
