Short Term Goal Statement: Spend at least 30 minutes a day studying for my courses.

3. Limit myself to things I want to do until I have completed my study time
4. Focus everyday in class
5. Check my calendar in each class daily to stay on top of my tasks

Narrative Statement:
If I complete this long- term goal, I will be able to apply at a major university and start working towards
my major. This goal will help me achieve my life long goal of being a college graduate and becoming a
Nutritionist.

What obstacles will you need to overcome or what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your long-term
goal?
I will sacrifice more time and extra activities, so that I will have more time to study, resulting in better
grades this semester. This will help me get a better GPA, and have a better chance of getting into the
school I want to attend next semester.

I deserve this goal because:

1. I have worked hard in school to be able to attend the university I want.

2. I want to be able to be the first person in my family with a college degree.

I hereby commit to myself to achieve this goal.

Students communicate effectively. This includes developing critical literaciesreading, writing,

speaking, listening, visual understandingthat they can apply in various contexts; Organizing
and presenting ideas and information visually, orally, and in writing according to standard
usage; Understanding and using the elements of effective communication in interpersonal, small
group, and mass settings.
I can tell I have improved my communication skills, because if you look at my Research Paper in
my English 2010 class, you can tell that I am confident in my position and have credible sources
to back them up.
Students develop quantitative literacies necessary for their chosen field of study. This includes
approaching practical problems by choosing and applying appropriate mathematical
techniques; Using information represented as data, graphs, tables, and schematics in a variety
of disciplines; Applying mathematical theory, concepts, and methods of inquiry appropriate to
program-specific problems.
My quanititative literacy skills have improved since my time at SLCC. My Conversation Paper in
Astronomy required a lot of this knowledge and I looked at many data charts to make sure my
paper was correct.
Students think critically and creatively. This includes reasoning effectively from available
evidence; demonstrating effective problem solving; engaging in creative thinking, expression,
and application; Engaging in reflective thinking and expression; Demonstrating higher-order
skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation; Making connections across disciplines;
Applying scientific methods to the inquiry process.
In my English 2010 class, I had to write a position paper where I had to gain insight from both
sides and take a position on the issue. I had to really analyze the whole issue to make sure I
chose the side that best represented my values.
Students develop the knowledge and skills to be civically engaged. This includes understanding
the natural, political, historical, social, and economic underpinnings of the local, national, and

global communities to which they belong; Developing the awareness of both civil rights and civil
responsibilities for individual and collective action in a democracy; Engaging in servicelearning for community building and an enhanced academic experience; Develop the knowledge
and skills to take leadership roles.
Before taking Political Science, I did not know much about politics. You can see in my
powerpoint that I had to learn certain things about past Presidents and the bills they passed and
what they did in their presidency to help America today.
Students develop the knowledge and skills to work with others in a professional and
constructive manner. This includes engaging with a diverse set of others to produce professional
work; Interacting competently across cultures; understanding and appreciating human
differences; Understanding and acting on standards of professionalism and civility, including the
SLCC Student Code of Conduct.
In my Astronomy Conversation paper, I had to put together a meet up with people I know to gain
new insight about this topic. I had to make sure the conversation was civil and that everyone
respected each others views.
Students develop computer and information literacy. This includes using contemporary
computer hardware and software to effectively complete college-level assignments; Gathering
and analyzing information using technology, library resources, and other modalities;
Understanding and acting upon ethical and security principles with respect to computer
technology and to information acquisition and distribution; distinguishing between credible and
non-credible sources of information, and using the former in their work in an appropriately
documented fashion.
In my English 2010 class, I had to write many papers that required a lot of data and background
information. This tested my ability to discern between credible and false information.
Students develop the attitudes and skills for lifelong wellness. This includes understanding the
importance of physical activity and its connection to lifelong wellness; learning how
participation in a fitness, sport or leisure activity results in daily benefits including stress
reduction, endorphin release, and a sense of well-being.
In my Health 1100 class, we had to write a Reflection Paper that made us think about what that
course taught us about our physical, mental and emotional well-being.
