1.PURPOSE
ThisMethodstatementcoverstheonsiteinstallationofthefinalelectricalconnectionstotheMVLVequipment.
AsdefinedinGeneralSpecifications.
2.SCOPEOFWORK

thatCableladderCableTrayandassociatedcablefor
finalelectricalconnectionstotheMVLVequipmentand
workmanshiparecorrectandacceptable,andshall
conformtotheContractdocumentsandspecifications.
ScheduleofmaterialtobereviewedSeelatestrevision
ofMaterialProcurementSchedule.
3.RESPONSIBLEPERSONNEL

QCInspector.
4.PREINSTALLATIONREQUIREMENTS

Allmaterialsanddocumentationrelevanttoaparticular
sectionofworkswillbecheckedbytheConstruction
DepartmentpriortotheCommencementofworksensuringthattheseareofcorrecttypeasreviewed.
Beforecommencementofanypermanentworkspreinspectionwillbecarriedoutonallmaterialspriorto
themleavingthestoragearea.
Priortothecommencementofpermanentworks,areasandaccesswillbeinspectedtoconfirmtheyareina
suitableconditionforpermanentworkstocommence.TheClientisinvitedtoattendthisinspection.

5.METHODSTATEMENTFORINSTALLATION
1.LadderRackandCableTrayTosupportPVCinsulatedPowerCables.
2.Installation supervisor will instruct tradesmen regarding the execution of the works and will distribute all
necessaryapprovedconstructiondrawingsofthelatestrevision.
3. The supervisor will also check that tools and equipment available are in compliance with contract
requirements.
4.Cabletraysformedfromperforatedmetalwillbeinstalledatcorrectelevationsandcoordinatedlocationsas
indicatedontheapprovedconstructiondrawings.
5.Cable trays will be independently supported from the main structure, wherever possible, at intervals not
exceeding1.5m,andononesideofandatadistancenotexceeding500mmfromabendorintersection,
withapprovedgalvanizedbrackets.
6.Cable trays will be cut along a plain line of metal and not through the perforations, all cut edges shall be
preparedandtreatedwithcoldgalvanizedpaintanddeburredofanyroughremainingmetalwork.
7.Cable trays will be connected between adjacent lengths tee or bend pieces by butt joints, and securely
fastenedbymushroomheadsteelroofingbolts,connectionsshallbemechanicallystrongsothatnorelative
movementbetweenthetwolengthscanoccurandshallbeefficientlyandadequatelybonded.
8.Perforationsforcableentryandexitwillbemadewiththecorrectsizecuttingdevice.Trayswithanominal
widthof100mmor150mmwillnothavecableentrieswithinthecircularportionofthebend.
9.Holescutincabletrayforthepassageofcableshallbeprovidedwithgrommets.Alternativelytheywillbe
bushedorlined.
10.Aminimumclearspaceof20mmshallbeleftbehindallcabletrayswhereverpossible.
11.Property expansion splice plate will be used to join adjacent lengths of tray. Trays will not joined when
crossing a construction expansion joint. At these points the tray shall be bridged with a flexible earth
conductor.
12.Cableladderswillfollowthesamecriteriaastrayswhereapplicableandshallbesupportedatintervalsof
notmorethat1500mmonsteelworksofadequatestrengthandrungsshallbeslottedforcableclampingor
tying.

13.Where cables turn down to MVLV panels or switch boards, drop out accessories will be used with each
laddertosupportthecablesasshownontheconstructiondrawings.
14.Cable tray deflection shall not exceed 1/100 of a 1.2m span at the mid point of the span after cable
installation.Itwillcomplywiththemanufacturerrecommendation.
15.Wherecablesarerequiredtopeeloffatray,amouldedprotectiveedgingshallbefittedtothetray.
16.Cableladderdeflectionshallnotexceed1/100ofthespanatthemidpointofthecentrespanofa1.5span
continuousbeamaftercableinstallation.Itwillcomplywiththemanufacturerrecommendation.
6.CABLEINSTALLATION
Layoutandmethodofinstallationwillbeasshownontheapprovedconstructiondrawing.
In particular the following will be adhered to: a) Maximum allowable pulling tension shall not be
exceeded. b) Minimum bending radii shall be adhered to as per specifications/manufacturers
recommendations. c) Rollers will be used at intervals to prevent dragging the cables during the cable
installationoncabletrayorladderrack.Curverollerswillbesettledattheproperpositioninordertokeep
thecablewithinsuitablebendingradiusforpullingcablearoundcurvesandbends.
Theinstallationfromcabledrumontocabletrayorladderrack:drumsettingpositionwillbedeterminedin
considerationofthecablelayingdirection,sothatthecablecanbereeledoutontotrayorrackinasmooth
curvewithoutbeing.
Eachcablewillbefittedwithacableidentificationtagasperspecifications.Thetagwillindicatethecable
numberanddestination.
Cablesinstalledoncableladderwillbesecuredbyapprovedcablefasteners.Thecablecleatingwillhave
adequatestrengthtosupportthecableduringfaultconditions.
Saddlesandfixingsforsecuringmulticorecablestothecabletraysystemwillbeoftheapprovedtype,with
the maximum spacing of 150mm. Single core cables installed on cable trays will be secured by the
approvedcablefasteners
InternalBendingRadiiofPowerCables:asperspecifications/manufacturersrecommendations
Ateachjointortermination,anonferrouslabelshallbefixedtothecablegivingsizeandidentificationofthe
cable.
Cable trays as per approved material will be connected to the MVLV equipment via appropriate wiring
accessories
Reductioninthenumberofstrandsofacablecorewillnotbeallowedatacablejointortermination.
Whereacompressionjointismade,theappropriatetoolsspecifiedbythemanufacturerofjointconnectors
willbeused.Thecompressionjointswillbemadebyinsertingthecorestobejointedintotheoppositeend
ofacompressionjointingcoupling.
Cablesupportbracketwillfirmlyclamptheincomingcableatasuitabledistancefromthetermination.
MVcableterminationswillbecarriedoutinstrictaccordancewiththeterminationmanufacturersinstruction
leafletsandgreatcareshallbetakentoensurethatterminationsandequipmentremaincleanandfreefrom
contaminationduringtheterminatingprocess.
FinaltestingofMVcableswillbebythesupplyingauthoritypriortoenergization.
Final testing of LV Cables with be by the client as per specification / contract requirements. Testing will
normallyconsistofinstallationandcontinuitychecksforphaseandneutralconductors.
7.BUSBARTRUNKINGINSTALLATION

BUS bar trunking will be installed as per the approved construction drawings and manufacturers shop
drawingsanddetails.
BUS bar trunking support system shall maintain the trunking in both horizontal and vertical plane without
stressontheJoints.
Bothjointsandfinalconnectionsoftrunkingwillbetorquetightenedtomanufacturersrecommendations.
Finaltestingasperclause6.15ofthismethodstatement.
8.SafetyandEnvironmentalConsideration
In ordered to ensure that all final electrical connections to MVLV equipment workers to takes place in a safe
manner,contractorwillconsiderthesuitabilityof:

Theworkersistobetrainedandcertifiedforthejob.
Theworkersmustbehealthy.
Theworkersmustbetrainedforsafeworking.
