SAP SPAM/SAINT UPDATE

SAP Support package's are used to enhance the functionality or bug fixing in the program, it
contains a collection of error corrections. You can only import complete Support Packages and
in a specified sequence. Each correction in a Support Package is documented in an SAP Note.

For example if your current SPAM version is 7.00/0034, you can directly update this
component to the latest. You do not have to apply version 35, 36, 37.and son on to
reach to target level.

Prerequisites for applying support patches


1.

SPAM and SAINT version should be latest.

2.

There should not be any aborted packages which were applied earlier.

3.

Login to 000 client.

4.

Suspend all background jobs using report BTCTRNS1

5.

There should be at least two background work process reserved for this process.

6.

Check for enough space in eps/in directory (os level) D:\\usr\sap\trans\eps\in

7.

Take the database backup before going to apply support packages

8.

There should be enough space in tablespace (DB02)

9.

In order to avoid network congestion the files which are more than 10MB has to be
applied through Application sever. Patches which are less than 10MB can be applied
through Front end.

Following screen-cast will show you how to update your SPAM.

1. To check the current Support Package manager version.


2. Log into SAP and execute transaction SPAM.

In the above screen we can see that our Support package manager version is
7.00/0034.

3. Now we will go to SAP market place to check the latest version of SPAM.

2.1 Select SAP SPAM Update > Select appropriate version for our system.
In our example we are trying to update SPAM from version 7.00/0034 to latest
available. So we will select SPAM Update 700.

2.2 Now click on "Support Packages" and select the latest package.

Download the selected file D: /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in.

Go to transaction SPAM and Load the support packages from frontend if it is < 10 MB. The
support packages which are in the form of .car will be decompressed into eps/in directory.
If the size is > 10mb, copy the support packages to \trans directory and uncar the support
packages using the below command
cmd>cd usr\sap\trans
> sapcar xvf <filename>.car

3. Go to transaction SPAM - client 000 (do not use DDIC) and go to Support
Package > From Application Server > and press Yes.

4.This will upload the file from /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in and you will get below screen.

5. Now go to menu and select Support Package >import SPAM /Saint Update
and press green check mark to start deploying the update.

Known Error : If SPAM updates through an error , go out and execute SPAM and
execute step 5 again.

6. Once the update is finished, go out and execute SPAM again. Now you can see the new
version deployed.
