FILL LIFE WITH HAPPINESS AGAIN!

VISION TO HEAL. MISSION TO HELP

Gionee, along with its partner The Bansi Vidya Memorial Trust, has initiated a
cause for supporting children suffering from Leukemia under its initiative called
"Leukemia Crusaders". Gionee has been involved with various charitable causes
on a global scale, and the same is reflected in its endeavours. For every mobile
17

phone sold in India, Gionee has pledged to donate a certain amount of money to
'Leukemia Crusaders'. Every child has the right to life and the initiative
"Leukemia Crusaders" is an effort to channelize this belief into action.
Our Initiative
The BansiVidya Memorial Trust (BVMT) is an initiative that was formed to
work and contribute towards providing assistance to leukemia afflicted, underprivileged children, below the age of 10. We believe that children are the future
of India and that there should be no reason why we should lose this future for a
lack of awareness, funds or capability.
The 'Leukemia Crusaders' logo is designed to signify that with timely detection
and proper medical care, the illness can be conquered and children can lead a
normal and happy life

Case Studies
There are currently 44 children under our care. The children are being treated in
the following hospitals. They are recovering well and have progressed
substantially.
1. Indraprastha Apollo Hospital (Delhi)
2. Jupiter Hospital (Mumbai)
3. BLK Memorial Super Specialty Hospital (Delhi)
18

4. Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Medical research Hospital (Mumbai)

Mentors
The BansiVidya Memorial Trust (BVMT) is proud to have Dr. Amita Mahajan
as one of their leading mentors. Dr. Mahajan is the Senior Pediatric Oncologist
at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and has many years of invaluable
experience in treating children afflicted by cancer.
About Leukemia
The term leukemia refers to the cancer of the white blood cells. When a child
has leukemia, large numbers of abnormal white blood cells are produced. These
abnormal white cells cannot perform their proper role of protecting the body
against diseases because they are defective. Leukemia is classified into two
types, acute (rapidly developing) and chronic (slowly developing) forms.
Leukemia is the most commonly occurring cancer amongst children.
Causes
The acute form of leukemia most commonly occurs in young children aged
between 2 to 8 years, but it can affect all age groups. In most cases, neither
parents nor kids have control over the factors that trigger leukemia. Most cases
of leukemia arise from non-inherited mutations (changes) in the genes of
growing blood cells. And because these errors occur randomly and
unpredictably, there is currently no effective way to prevent most types of
leukemia.
Symptoms
Because their white blood cells are defective, kids with leukemia may
experience increased episodes of fevers and infections. They also may become
19

anemic, which makes them appear pale, and they may become abnormally tired
and short of breath while playing. Children with leukemia might bruise and
bleed very easily, experience frequent nosebleeds, or bleed for an unusually
long time after even a minor cut because leukemia destroys the bodys ability to
produce clot-forming platelets. Spread of leukemia to the brain can cause
headaches, seizures, balance problems and abnormal vision.
Treatment
With proper treatment and care, the outlook for children diagnosed with
leukemia is quite good. Overall cure rates differ depending on the specific
features of a child's disease. Most childhood leukemia cases have very high
remission rates and the majority of kids can be cured of the disease.

Now get more out of your phone with Android 5.0 - Lollipop. Based on fluid

disruption for a smooth user experience.

25

Finding
App-entertainment systems in cars, triggered by the smartphone's
success, are another distraction for drivers, even if these systems
are hands-free.
The decline of the newspaper printing press will be speeded up by
the increasing smartphone popularity. More people will have
access to mobile news apps.
Smartphones are a great learning tool for college students - but
only when used appropriately. Having the Internet always on-hand
provides a temptation to cheat on tests. Therefore, students will
have to learn to practice ethics and set boundaries for themselves,
in order to handle these types of situations

Conclusion
26

Check out all the phones the carrier you're going with has in your price range
and with the operating system you want. Think about the tasks your planning on
using your phone for, and try them out on the demonstration phones in the store.
See if the key board is comfortable, and how easy it is to switch between
applications. If the phone has a trackball or touchscreen, see if it's easy to use or
if you're constantly clicking on the wrong thing. Make sure the phone will fit
comfortably in your hand, as well as your pocket or purse. Also make sure you
like the look of the phone -- after all, it's going to be your constant accessory.
Put the phone to your ear and make sure that's comfortable as well. If you know
people who have a phone you're interested in, ask them about it. Also read user
reviews online to see if the phone has issues like getting hot after prolonged use,
or breaking easily.

Suggestion

27

In most cases, your smartphone plan will be a bigger expense than your phone.
Let's say you had to have a certain phone and you were OK with paying $600
for it with no discounts. The plan for that phone could run for two years, at over
$100 a month. You could end up paying four times as much for the plan than the
phone.
Before shelling out all that cash each month, think about how you want to use
your phone. If you plan using mainly it for talking and texting, with only a little
bit of e-mail or web surfing, see if you can find a plan with less data. If you're
constantly online and want to download apps, games and movies, you'll want to
spring for more data. Other parts of the plan to consider include if unused data,
text and talking minutes roll over from month to month, or what the penalty for
breaking the contract is. If, for example, you move out of the cell phone carrier's
coverage area, you don't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars just to get out
of your contract.
