Five Easy Steps:

1. Your parents insurance plan could stop covering you completely

if youre a part-time student over 21, or a full-time student over 25.
2. Most plans dont offer coverage for vaccinations, travel, or vision,
but your student Plan covers those benefitsand for much less!

What if I want to change my coverage?

You have the ability to manage your coverage so that it works
for you. Visit www.ihaveaplan.ca during the appropriate
Change-of-Coverage Period to use the secure, online opt-out
or enrolment system, and follow the detailed instructions.

You can enrol your family (spouse and/or dependent

children) each year by paying an additional fee,
over and above your fee as a member of the Plan.

COVERAGE OPTIONS & OPTING OUT
The choice is always yours if you wish to choose a different level
of coverage, mix and match portions of the Enhanced Plan and
the Basic Plan, or opt out of the health portion, the dental portion,
or the Plan in its entirety.
Its an easy 3-STEP process:
1. Use the secure, online opt-out processing system at
www.ihaveaplan.ca to choose your level of coverage.
2. If youre opting out, upload proof of your alternative health
and/or dental coverage (such as a copy of your benefits card
or a letter from your parents or spouses employer) OR
choose the Basic Plan, a lower level of coverage for a
lower price, with no proof of coverage required.
3. Receive a credit to your student account or a cheque for the difference
in Plan fees shortly after the end of the Change-of-Coverage Period.

what is a health and dental plan?

The Plan is a valuable service offered by your student society, the
SFSS, to provide its members with the extended health and dental
coverage they need beyond provincial health care and other basic
health-care programs. It is administered by Studentcare, the leading
provider of student health and dental plans in Canada.

Prescription Drugs*

All SFU undergraduate students who are registered for

3 or more credits in September or January at Burnaby, Surrey,
or Vancouver campuses are automatically enrolled in the Enhanced
Health & Dental Plan when paying fees to SFU. This includes eligible
international students, exchange or study abroad students, Co-op
students on exchange, and Co-op students, when paying fees to SFU.
Certain exceptions exist. Please check your student account to confirm
if you have been charged the Plan fees.
