Lesson One
-

Introduce lesson by explaining


to students that today they will
have the opportunity to learn
about each others families
Start a class discussion about
the different types of families
(all families are different but
thats OK)
As a class do a mind map on
the board with central title
FAMILY MEMBERS and get the
class to name as many types of
family members as they can
In a class circle, get each
student to name a family
member and the favourite
thing they like to do with that
specific family member
Provide them with the family
tree worksheet and explain
they have to draw each family
member (if they dont them
thats OK) and put their name
on their if they know it. Add
any extra circles for siblings or
other family members they
know

Lesson Two

Make sure all students have got


their parents to write down at
least 3 milestones for them for
their timeline (if not we can
think of other things e.g. when
I was three my brother was
born)
Explain to students that they
will be doing a timeline similar
to what they did with the
Thukeri story and they need to
start from when they were
youngest and then to oldest
drawing pictures explaining
what each thing is.
Once they have drawn the
pictures bring them to me to
scribe down words

or holds more, and explain reasoning in everyday language

they weight and
put it in the

Lesson Two

Do worksheet as
a class (may be a
bit difficult for
students to do on
their own)
Free use of scales
in the classroom

Lesson Three

up on the table,
some will have
water some wont
and there will be
two sections
marked FULL and
EMPTY and
students and the
same with HEAVY
and LIGHT and
will need to
weight the items
to see which one
is heavy and
which one is light
Split class into
two groups and
they will need to
work together to
sort out all the
items and put
them in under
their correct
heading
Once each group
as finished they
will swap over
and do the other
items
