Human Trafficking

In the search of a better life, many people risk it all no matter what is at stake.
People are faced with numerous problems in life, some problems are worse than others.
Many difficulties can be manageable, whereas some can be very hard to understand and
to manage; misery is never a good thing. Thats why human trafficking is one of the
worst experience for anybody because it touches all aspects of ones life. Some people
can recover from it, but for the most part the captive is most likely to die from his or her
abuser or even abusers. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem, and the effects are
great and broad. For example, people who are wanting to improve their life styles meet
with someone who claims to have the ability to make it happen, but eventually this
person misleads them. Human trafficking is bad and can be debated in several ways:
misery, risk, and ethic.

Siliac 2
First of all, people who experience human trafficking go through a great deal of
misery. Misery takes fun away from life as Huetteman points out that in Marion Ohio, a
year ago, six children were encouraged to come to the United States from Guatemala and
were promised a better life but ended up working on eggs farm. (Huetteman, 2016). In
the eager to change the despicable way of living most people are willing to risk
everything in order to better their lives. They will go as extreme as possible to give their
own flesh and blood away. They usually work hard and under paid while being taken
advantage of. Khadaroo states, the repugnance like the story of Jing a Filipina domestic
worker that was trapped in a Staten Island home for more than one year she was bruised
and was only pay less than $10.00 a day. (Khadaroo, 2015). I think that this is ridicules
that a worker was treated this way. This is an example of how some people are selfish and
don't want others to advance. An another example of misery is poverty. Some people
experience misery when try to migrate from poverty to a decent life. Petriliggieri states,
"Because of a lack of well-being most of the victims found themselves in some
vulnerable situations because of either social ,economical or political these people take
the risk to migrate because they want a change in their life."(Petriliggieri, 2013). I think
this is very sad to say the least. People shouldn't to go through this type of process in
order to better their lives no matter what their backgrounds are. Lourie also states that
human trafficking absolutely violate human rights, and one of the main cause is poverty.
(Lourie, 2016) In order words, if people who involve in human trafficking had money or
financial situated, they would not participate in it at all. So, I think one of the ways to
eliminate human trafficking is to do away with poverty. Entrepreneurs and the
government should work together to establish work for those who don't jobs. Moreover,

Siliac 3
people who have a great deal money should help those who are at the bottom struggling.
It is great to know that some famous people don't like human trafficking and are fighting
to get rid of it by voicing their opinion against it. According to Beardsley, "Despite all the
political talks around the candidate immigration which is one the most topic and a big
issue this year in election in America as it is generally in Europe.Alot of foreigners tried
to cross frontiers ,boarders, forest to improve their living in either Europe or America
.Some as young as thirteen like the story of Imran a thirteen year old boy whose father
died and his mom wanted him to leave Afganistan for his safety because he does have an
uncle who lives in Ukraine he came by himself from Afaganistan to France .It took him
eight months to reach this port city and this squalid camp." (Beardsley, 2016). This is to
show that people will go the extra mile to get out of poverty. The mother of the Imran boy
wanted a better life for him by trying to send to live with his uncle who is living in
Ukraine. She did the right thing because poverty cannot be played with. According to
Martin, "A lot of famous voices advocate in the fight of human trafficking like the wife of
Senator John Mccain Cyndi Mccain who is a passionate defender of victims of human
trafficiking who along with her husband has founded the McCain Institute. The
organization focuses in part on anti-human trafficking. She says the problem is a global
one and also Unfortunately, most people in the United States still believe that it takes
place only overseas, which couldn't be further from the truth." (Martin, 2016).
Second, many people take risks to improve their lives. There is no guarantee they
will be successful. According to the United Nations, people will do whatever it takes to
bring satisfaction to themselves. They will do so even if it means to climb the highest
mountain. Mankind so greedy and selfish they will claim any mountain to satisfy their

Siliac 4
needs. (United Nations, 2000). I think greed and power play a big role into this. I also
think that many people take risks without thinking about the consequences, and it
shouldn't be like this at all. Another example of a risk factor from human-trafficking is
that abusers can leave women with unwanted pregnancies. According to Chang, Human
trafficking is so complex that most of the time these abusers can leave their victims with
unwanted pregnancy and no financial resources after they exploited those young girls or
women (Chang, 2015). I think people should think deeply before accepting to go
through this process in order to improve their lives. For those who are kidnapping
children and innocent people via human-trafficking for financial purpose should be
caught and be put to jail. The unknown is one of the greatest fears when taking risks. It
could have a positive impact or negative impact. According to Gruber, "women are
always on a low pedestal and most of the time subject of sex abuse and also as domestic
violence." (Gruber, 2012). My assumption is that women who are involved in humantrafficking are subject to sexual abuse. This would be a negative impact if this person was
looking for a better life. One of the risks that is involved human traffic is that it can lead
to new born babies being sold for money, says Ma. Oliomogbe also states, "Three
female: Esther Frank, 17; Chinyere Ude, 19; and Happiness Igwe, 20 have been rescued
by operatives of the police Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba at a hideout on
Okpanam Road, Asaba. A town in Africa The Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr.
Zanna Ibrahim, told reporters yesterday in Asaba that the victims, who are all with
advanced pregnancies, told the police they were brought to the hideout by a lady, Uju
Okonkwo, a suspected fake nurse working at Chinonso Hospital, Nkpor in Anambra
State, for the purpose of selling their children after delivery. As sickening as it is this al so

Siliac 5
part of human trafficiking." (Oliomogbe, 2016). I think to take new born babies from
their mothers and to sell them to others in order to make money is a disgrace. It is
heartbreaking to see these mothers having to go through these kind of thing. This very
bad experience for these mothers is the result of a risk taken via human trafficking in the
process of improving life styles from bad to good.
Third, with great ethic, people can make wise decisions. It is very important for
people to have great moral values. Morefield states, One's children represents he or she
so in this context if a child is not disciplined most likely it will fall under the parents lack
of responsibility. (Morefield, 2016). I think parents have the ability to make a difference
in their children's life by teaching them great moral values. I also think many great
principles can be picked from the Holy Bible. People with great moral values must never
participate in Human-trafficking. Selfishness can be the reason why some people deviate
from practicing great ethic. Someone who is selfish only focuses only on himself/herself
and forget about others. Khadaroo states how Jing a Filipia, a domestic worker was
mistreated after being hired by a wealthy Egyptian business woman. This worker was
underpaid and was given false information regarding the police. This worker's passport
was taken away. (Khadaroo, 2015). I am assuming that they had made an investment and
did not want to lose it. Basically, this person was being treated like a property rather than
a person. There was no need to lie to her about the police in order to keep her in the
house. The business woman only focused on her needs but mistreated the worker. Human
Trafficking can be stopped if people use common sense and apply good moral values.
The authorities may also step in to initiate laws and regulations that would discourage
this practice and to make it go away for good. According to United Nations, In 2003, the

Siliac 6
United States updated the U.S. Code to make illegal the importation of minors for use in
the commercial sex trade or in the creation of pornographic materials. (United Nations,
2000). I think this was a great move by the United States to have put this in place. It
would be awesome if other countries would do the same. Human trafficking can appear in
many different ways. The typical human trafficking is consisted of women and children
being smuggled for labor or prostitution. It can also be called human trafficking when
women or children are being abused sexually. The perfect examples that can be used are
the 2011 sexual abuse scandals at Penn State and Syracuse universities. Bryant also states
there were possibilities of covering up of the child sexual abuse. The citizens were
surprised and highly upset. These child sexual abuse were being done at churches and
organizations that are respected such as the Boy Scouts. (Bryant, 2014). It is already
horrible for these organizations to abuse children sexually, and it is even worst when
people try to cover it up. People with great ethic or moral values would not have
participated in these kind of behaviors. That's why people should be very vigilant when it
comes to their children. This kind of human trafficking is one of the worst. People with
corrupted moral must be kept away from children. It is extremely hard to understand that
Churches and Boy Scouts are the places where these kind of immoralities are coming
from. These places should be where moralities are being practiced. I think the
government should do more to stop human trafficking. However, the reason why it is
difficult to stop completely is because of the lack of knowledge regarding it. According to
Madrinan, several studies confirmed that the causes of human trafficking and poverty are
stemmed from the lack of knowledge regarding them. Madrinan states, " Prevention
interventions often move forward with poverty alleviation programs coupled with

Siliac 7
awareness raising, without first investigating whether the key drivers of human
trafficking in the given area truly are household income or lack of understanding about
trafficking and safe migration." Madrinan also stated that no one can ignore that human
trafficking is comprised of murder, rape, unwanted drug use, lack of liberty, and human
civil rights manipulations. (Madrinan, 2013). I believe that investigation should be done
to determine who these group of people are and to attempt to stop them from operating. I
think if the government does put the effort on researching human trafficking, the more
information or data they will have to stop these group of people from getting involved in
unethical behavior. If these group of people are aware that they can be stopped, they will
stop, and human trafficking will be gone for good. Provided that the government can
eliminate the practice of human trafficking, the group of people who were involved doing
these kind of practices will be forced to make ethical decisions.
In conclusion, the above-mentioned explains how human-trafficking is a serious
issue. It impacts people in poverty in numerous ways: misery, risk, and ethic. In the
search for a better life, people take risks and experience a great deal of misery during the
process. Human-trafficking causes people's lives to change forever whether it is good or
bad. Some people end up with some unwanted pregnancies. People with great ethic do
not participate in immoral things. They always think ahead and stay ahead. The group of
people who are in charge of the human trafficking operations should ask themselves how
would they feel if it were them being mistreated, raped, and abused just because they are
in search for a better life. I hope that the authorities will do everything in their power to
stop these individuals. I also hope people who are in search for a better life will try other
means rather than going through this channel. This research was very informative, and it

Siliac 8
is related to my community being an immigrant. I myself from a third world country
where people will do everything and anything to escape misery hunger, especially after
the 2010 earthquake and the Matthews hurricane. It really got worst. I have heard so
many stories related to this research paper, and I just felt bless that my journey to come to
America was a very blessed one and had a different experience.
