Unit 32 assignment 3 Proposal

Initial ideas:
Mind maps:
In this assignment I have created some mind maps, these
were to determine the content i have included in the logo
and in the ident, this is because when I create anything I
write down all of my ideas on a mind map and then go
overt them and pick out the best ideas and use them for
the project (screen shots of the mind maps to the right).
Copyright laws:
Copyrights and patents were created in 1988 and were made
for two main reasons, giving the creator protection in case
someone stole the work and rewarding the creator as no one
else can steal their work. Copyrights apply to mp3, songs, text,
videos, pictures etc. copy right symbol to the right.

Before the copyright it was easy to steal and use someone

elses work as your own. Now, if you use someone elses work
it is a breach of the copyright laws.
Copyright laws last a life time and an additional 70 years after the creators
death, after this the copyright is passed down to the creators heirs. Currently in
the UK you dont have to apply or register for a copyright as the law is
automatically enforced.
You can pay for assets, meaning you dont buy the copyright, but you can buy
the rights to use the image/ song/ mp3/ video or text.
Copyrights also apply to software, for example Windows 10, you can buy a copy
of Windows 10, basically giving you the rights to use Windows 10, but you only
pay for it on one device, you cant use the same disk to install windows 10 on
different computers as it would break copyright laws, you can however buy a
bundle that allows more than 1 account, for example a 4 accounts bundle would
allow 4 computers to have Windows 10.
When posting things online, to avoid copyrights always ask for permission, if you
dont get permission, ether find another sound clip / video / picture or take your
own.

Assets collected:

To keep track of the assets I am using

through this assignment I am pasting all
of the http links I have used to gather
assets into a sources document, so far
this is what I have on my sources
document (Image to the right) this will
expand as I continue to work on this project as throughout the project I
will be using more and more links to gather assets, these will all be pasted
onto the sources document.

Planning:
Production budget:
For this project I have a production budget of 4,000 this money will
cover the cost of equipment, filming and editing i havent decided If the
ident will be filmed or not so I have created a budget
report where I list all of the assets I am sure I will
need, then I make another list will lot of different
variables (actors, camera man, camera and
transport) I have mentioned that these might not be
needed so I have got two different left over budget
report (shown to the right). Also because these are variables, I have linked
all of the variable prices together so when I change one of the numbers in
the variable category, all of them change this makes it a lot quicker than
having to go through all of the different catagories and manually change
each and every number that is asociated with the field I am changing an
eample of this is if I change the hourly rate of the actors, it will change the
rate, the overall number on the variable table and the end budget for if I
decide to film.
Timescale:
As I havent got long to complete this project I have two different
documents in which I have a schedule that I need to keep to and at the
end of every lesson I update these documents with what I did that lesson
these tow documents are called the LIP and the gantt chart, I got the LIP
from Moodle this is a Marple College page and I created the Gantt chart
myself. These both basically tell me what tasks I have to complete that
lesson and what tasks I completed in all the lessons before. Below are
screen shots of the two different documents (the gantt and the ILP both
used for keeping on track and up to date with all of the work so I complete
all of the tasks on time and so that I can review exactly what I have done
every lesson, what took the longest to do and what took the least amount
of time.)

(These documents are not yet

complete at the end of the
project the documents will be
complete with comments under
every session as I can only
update each session review
once I complete the session as
I havent6 done the sessions
yet I cannot write what I did
that session as I havent done it yet.

Management and roles:

I have decided on what will be in my ident, now I know exactly what roles I
need, in this project I will need: 1 actor, 1 camera man and transport.
Even through the ident is only 20 seconds long It will take a few hours to
film as my idea involves traveling to
different locations so it will take a lot
of time in travel as the actor will be
walking and the scenes will keep
cutting to different locations. In the
screen shot of the budget to the right
it shows that I only need one actor, 1
camera man and transport for a few
hours.

As there are only a few roles needed in this project it will be very easy to
manage the filming on the project, all that is going to happen on the
filming day is filming a few seconds of footage in one location, moving to
another location, filming, moving to another location, filming etc. until I
have a lot of footage and then picking the best few clips, cut them down
to size and use them in the ident.
Production paperwork:

In this production there will be a few clearance papers to fill out, this will
include all of the different places I film (if it is private land most/all of the
places I plan of filming are public land), if any people appear in the ident
this wont happen as I will ensure the area is clear of any people before
filming therefore the only people in the ident will be the actor so I only

need clearance papers from myself, I will also try and get some music
composed for the ident myself so I will need clearance papers from the
songs composer. As I am not filming the ident unit after this assignment I
cannot show the clearance papers as I have not
got them yet as I havent started filming yet.
Image of the folders I produced/paperwork for this
assignment to the right.

Working for a client:

As I am working with a client that has already made
reports on the target audience of their channel and
what they are going to air on the channel to suit the
target audiences needs it is quite easy to design an
ident for the channel as I already have a theme/style to
work with and it is quite easy to think of ideas to suit
the target audience (the target audience specified on
the brief is 18 30 year olds who watch music videos and American
comedy shows. This projec5t would be a lot more work if I had no context
on the channel and had to choose the target audience and decide what
shows would be airing on the channel.
Image to the right is a graphic showing a target audience, the links in the
to comment above where the client already picked out a target audience
and already did some research into the target audience.

Design development:
Storyboarding:

For story boarding all I have created so far is a

story board for logo, this shows how I am going to
design my logo, (story board for logo shown in the
image to the right) in this image it shows a
simplistic logo that is plain bubble writing
coloured in primary colours (red, green and blue)
this is so it will attract the attention of the
audience as it is colourful this also suits the
music video/comedy theme of the channel. (The text on the right of the
image is just a description of the logo on the main box of the image the
part that says THE GRID)

Logo:
The logo is the only story board I have filled out the
image to the right is a screen shot of the logo I chose
to create a simple logo as it looks good and doesnt
take too long to create this is so I dont waste time
on the logo and go over the deadline with all of the
other documents I have to create. (The text on the
right of the image is just a description of the logo on
the main box of the image the part that says THE GRID)
Timing animation sequence (dope sheets):

For this ident I only have 20 seconds, however for my idea it will take a
few hours to film as I will be cutting to a lot of different locations,
therefore it will take a while to travel to all the different locations, in the
dope sheets I have pasted belo9w I have made a rough idea of what I will
be doing in this ident. In this ident Im going to be walking around
different locations with my phone out, I will create an image and have it
displayed on the phone I will then play this on the advert and have it cut
to different locations and possibly different times (e.g. daylight/night).
(images below).

Client liaison:

In this project I have a client liaison whereby I meet with the client and
show off my proposal and get feedback from the client with my ideas for
the ident. This liaison is scheduled for after I finish creating the proposal
(this document) In the proposal all different topics are covered such as:
production budget, timescale, management and roles, production
paperwork, working for a client, storyboarding, logo, timing animation
sequence (dope sheets), client liaisons, client needs, mind map of ideas,
storyboards, dope sheets, script, demographic, logo design, colour
scheme, music, sound, format, copyright laws (software), hardware
requirements, software requirements and assets collected. All of these
mentioned are listed on the assignment brief. In the proposal I will go into
detail about all of these points to better explain what I am going to do to
create the ident, how I am creating it etc.
-Update-

After meeting with the client, they said that they were very happy with my
ideas and said that I should make the ident that I designed on the dope
sheets.

Proposal:
Client needs:

In this assignment the client requires a 20 second TV ident that is aimed

at people aged between 18 and 30 who watch music videos and American
comedy shows, I know this because it is specified on the brief. I know the
target audience as the brief says They have identified their target
audience as 18 to 30 year olds and are aiming to broadcast a mi of music
videos, imported American sitcoms and youth oriented chat shows. This
shows a detailed description of the target audience the channel is aiming
at.
Mind map of ideas:
In this assignment I only have 5 sessions
to complete the assignment I have not
mind maps, instead I have designed
assets in order to save time and not go over
instead I have made some simple designs
take too long to make so
dont go over schedule

(7.5 hours)
made any
simplistic
schedule,
that wont
that i

and so that I am abler to

finish all
of the documents on time.
Images to
the right are the dope
sheets I
created and they all have timings and frame numbers to help me time out
how long my ident would take as I only had a 20/30 second time frame
and didnt want to run over.

Storyboards:

In this assignment I only created one story board for

the logo, apart from this I did not have to create any
other storyboards so I decided to save time and not
waste time on any other storyboards that I didnt
need. The story board I created it a simplistic logo of
coloured bubble writing as it wont take that long to
create. (Image of storyboard to the right). In the
image to the right (the story board) it showsa the
logo I created along with a brief description to the
right of the logo I created.

Dope sheets:

I designed some dope sheets in this assignment so that I could plan out
and annotate what I was going to happen in the ident, the images below
are images of all the different
ident I have
created to show what is going to
happen in
the ident even though the ident
is only 20
seconds long I have a lot of
different
dope sheets as I plan to cut to
lots of
different locations on the ident as
part of my
plan for the content of the ident.
In the ident
I plan on filming in: Marple,
Woodley,
Stockport, Romiley, around Romiley, Around Marple etc. in a range of
different environments
such as town area,
fields, near lakes etc.

Demographic:

For this assignment the target audience/demographic has already been

picked out for us and the shows the demographic watch have also been
picked out for us as the demographic we are targeting is aged between 18
and 30, they also watch music videos, American sitcoms and youth
oriented chat shows. By already having a
demographic it made this assignment
somewhat easier as I didnt have to plan out
what demographic I am targeting along with
what to name the channel and what the
channel is going to air. The image to the right
shows a simplistic graphic that demonstrates
the target audicnace, this links into the cliernt picking out a target
audience so I already knew who I was targeting.

Logo design:

In this assignment I have designed a simplistic logo as it

saves time and doesnt take too long to make meaning I
wont go over schedule trying to create a very detailed
logo. The image to the right is an image of the
storyboard I created for the logo, although the text is unreadable on the image it is basically just a description of
what the logo is e.g. what colours the logo is and what
the logo and who the target audience are.

Colour scheme:

For the logo the three main colours I have chosen are red, blue and green,
I chose these as they are primary colours which are meant to grab the
audiences attention, however there will be a variety of different colours in
the ident as my plan is to film is lots of different locations and cut to each
one after a couple of seconds therefore there will be some fields, lakes,
town areas etc. But for the logo there will be blue, red and green (colour
blocks of blue red and green shown to the right to show the three main
colours. I have decided on a three main colour logo as it is popular in
media to have three main colours in images, logos and other assets this
is very popular in the magazine side of Media, by making the logo have
three main colours I have tried to design both a simple and good looking
logo.

Music:

In this assignment i will be putting music in the background of the ident,

this will be something cheery and fast paced to suit the theme of the ident
and suit the target audience. In this assignment I am going to try and be
different from other ideas and get some music
composed just for this 20 second ident, as well as
this I will get the composer to sign a clearance
form stating that I can use the music in the ident.
(as I dont have to make the ident until after this
assignment I dont have the clearance forms to
put in this document to show as I do not need
them yet.) The song I chose is a section of
System of a down jet pilot, the cover is the image
to the right.

Sound:

The sound is very similar to the music, but just to clarify

the music I will try and get composed just for this
ident will be cheery and fast paced, this is so that the
sound can suit the theme of both the target audience
and the ident in general, by having it fast paced it will
attract a lot of attention from the target audience. The
cover of the so9ng I chose is to the right.

Format:

The format of this ident will be very fast paced in order to attract the
attention of the audience, the video will have a lot of jump cuts to
different locations and the music I am going to get composed will also be
fast paced to match the video and attract the attention of the audience. I
decided to have a fast paced format over a slow paced format as it better
suits the target audience the client is aiming at, as well as this it allows
me to add more content into the 20 second slot I have available instead of
trying to drag out the smallest amount of content over 20 seconds. The
image to the right is one of the dope sheets I produced, this helped me
plan out the ident, it shows some of the details such as time per scene,
frames per scene etc.

Copyright laws (software):

In this project I have decided

to use Adobe as the software
to edit the ident together
against any of their copyright
the cost of Adobe is in the
buy the right to use the Adobe
create an ident does not go against any of the

with, this does not go

laws as I have stated what
budget report, as long as I
suit, using Adobe to
copyright laws.

Hardware requirements:

There are a few aspects of hardware requirements when producing a TV

ident.
Hardware requirements refer to the servers and computers needed to
produce a certain product, in this case a TV ident. An example of hardware
requirements is when making a high end video game the hardware
requirements are quite high as it would need several high end computers
with up-to-date components e.g. clock speed, processor, power,
resolution, graphics, memory, and other components. These are the main
components as they determine how many applications can be run at once
and how fast they can be run. In the example the computers would also
need to be tethered to a high end server with very high processing power
and very high storage e.g. 100/200 Tera-bytes as to store all of the work.

In this project I have a budget of 4,000 and I have decided to use 1,199
of this budget to buy an Apple iMac 4K 21.5, this is so that I can very
easily and quickly produce the advert as the computer I chose will be able
to run several different Adobe programmes at
once instead of a slower computer that
might/will crash if decide to run several
different Adobe programmes at the same time.
Therefore, the hardware requirements for this
assignment are quite high meaning I needed to
buy a professional computer over a budget
computer that wouldnt allow me to do as
much at once (run more applications at the
same time as the clock speed on
lower/cheaper/budget computers is lower than
the computer I have chosen meaning it cannot run applications at the
same speed).

Software requirements:

Software requirements basically mean what software you are going to

need to use in order to produce the project, in this assignment I my
software requirements are quite high as I will need several different
editing software programmes, while research I found that Adobe has an
80% discount to students for the first year, this makes the total price for
the year around 200, this includes all of the Adobe software which is
good as I will need Adobe Photo shop cc 2015, Premiere pro cc 2015 and
an Adobe sound editing software. This is the software I will be using for
this assignment as it is the cheapest I found, the most popular and it is for
a full year so the end of the assignment I will
still have the software and I will still have the
computer so the next assignment I could
mention that I already have these items and
save on the budget.
Due to the high budget I decided to buy
professional editing software in order to
make the advertisement look as professional
as possible. I have chosen to buy a (upfront
year payment) for the full Adobe suit as I
am a student I get the Adobe package at a

big reduction as there is a sale on at the Adobe website where students

get a big discount this is all noted on the budget report I created along
with the hardware I am buying such as a camera and computer.
Assets collected:
For this assignment have made to different things to keep track of the all
of the assets I have used, below are two screen shots, one of the sources
document and the other of the assets
folder, I have made both of these to
keep track of all of the assets I have
used and where I got all of the assets I
used from by putting all of the http links
in a document called the sources
document which is screen shotted below
net to the assets folder I created to keep
track of where I put all of the assets I
used in this assignment. The image to
the right is the sources document, this is
quite small as most of th4e
assets/images i made myself e.g. the
story boards and the dope sheets.

As I made most of the assets for this assignment the assets are very brief
as the only document I needed to research for was the budget as I needed
to research the cost of the different assets I needed to make the ident.
