by making it slower and redundant

2.

Then, play the Where are you Going? Song to let the students

%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DOkfROvtrDl8
With the song playing in the background, the teacher will send children to the carpet to
review Monday. Start by saying, Okay boys and girls, take out your license and what
you learned on Monday and lets review! (7 mins) (UDL 3.1, 8.3, 7.3, 3.2) ESOL 13use preview and review activities
After the review, the teacher will do a read aloud of the book North, East, South and

%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Df2I81_BFb-s (UDL 9.1)
When the song asks the viewer to point to which ever direction it says, the
teacher will model where they should point using the compass drawn on the
white board.
6. The teacher will then send the students back to their tables. On them will be various
pieces of construction paper, tacks, and markers. Gather the students attention by
saying if you can hear me clap oncetwiceetc. Model step by step how to create
their own compass rose:
Cut out a square
Cut out a circle
Paste them together
Cut out a small arrow
Poke a hole through the base and attach the
arrow with the tack.
Draw N, E, S, W
o For reference, the teacher will draw a larger version on the white
board with the labels N, S, E, W.
The students will create their own. (20 mins) (UDL 2.5, 8.3, 9.1) ESOL 16-integrate
speaking, listening, and reading, and writing activities

comprehension
8. Next, the students will use their handmade compasses and iPad
compasses to correctly label the walls of the room with North,
South, East, and West. (10 mins) (UDL 4.2, 2.5, 5.2) ESOL 46- Use
discovery learning activities (hands-on-activities)
9. The teacher will have one person from each table grab a prepared
basket containing the materials needed for each table to create their own map of the
community.
The students will draw and label their home, school, public library, and
Publix and connect them all with roads.
