MDD 6: REFLECTION AND SELF EVALUATION

MDD Standard

The teacher candidate identifies the main things learned in this practicum
and ways in which this learning has informed their professional development
needs, reflecting on the meaning, values, and purposes that will orient his or
her professional life.

1. Reflect on the main things you have learned about teaching and how
these relate to your understanding of the profession and the values
that guide your work.
The first thing that I learned is that you always have to have a plan "B" for
unexpected situations that may occur, such as students who are late or when only
two students arrive in your class.
I also learned that the sitting arrangement is very important for students to
participate actively, and this helps to create a safe environment for students so
they feel more confident when talking.
Finally, I realized that planning is very important because that way I can follow a
sequence during the class and I can prevent future problems that may occur. In
addition as teachers we must be organized and responsible, in that way our
students will learn in the best way possible and it is very important to provide
positive feedback to our students.

2. Describe one or two areas of professional growth (e.g. instructional

strategies, content knowledge).
I had no problem getting my students to understand the instructions of the activities
but I must improve my intonation when I give instructions, giving special emphasis
on some important words and prepare in advance the CCQ's that I will do.
I must also improve the activities of the production stage, they should be more
challenging for students and it will help them to produce as much language as
possible.
Lastly, I must stop giving just the right answer when a student responds badly, it is
better to make him realize that he was wrong.
