Discrimination against Women
In the 1960 there was a message that drummed in the girls heads. Since
they were since they were babies pg. 28. Back in the days the women were
told that their purpose was not get married and serve their husbands, the
men would be the only talking care of business outside of the home. The
women were not allowed to compete against men.
If women had a job once they got married, then they were order to quit
so their jobs didnt last a long time. In the early 1960s women didnt even
have knowledge of know what a doctor was about, or even to get legal advice
of any kind. Women didnt even see a police offer. Jo Freeman went Berkeley;
she had realized that during her education she didnt see one female
professor.
She was in multiple classes but not a single female teacher. I never
even saw one. Worse yet didnt notice. If a young woman expressed interest
in an outside the traditional teacher/nurse /secretary, her mentors carefully
sheared her back to the proper path. Pg.30.
The Portrayal of women on Television. Women in that if they should
more things about t 60s watched Howdy Doody which was the show
everyone women watched. The sponsor realized that if they showed more
things about princess they would sell more dresses. So it was approved by
the adults.

The parents were not happy with the show Howdy Doody, they
complained that it was too much masculinity. Even thou the television
became more popular in the 60s the women were still reminded about their
place in the household.
They still had to cook and care for the husbands they were told that
they had to let the boy win, which was very important for them. When a
script was doing or turn its attention to the wife, daughter or other. It was
frequently to remind her of her place and the importance of letting boys win.
Pg. 31
If a woman would make a decision their results was not a good turnout
for them. Most women were under the impression that if they were married
they were not allowed to be out in public, but it was only impression they had
in their mind. In 60s women stated work and help husbands with the bills
around the house. Widespread Discrimination against women. When
discrimination was perfectly legal it was ok for employer to discriminate
against women. Once Hired women had virtually no hope of moving up. A
report on women in management by Harvard. Pg. 37
The women had a hard time convincing banks or any other financial
institutes they could establishment that she was able to stain her bill in
currency. They were to believe a woman was not capable in fulling her
financial dusty. It got to a point where women could not get a loan with the
signature from her husband. So, if a woman was divorced then it was even
harder for them to get any assistance they were not allowed to get an
apartment of their own.

The companies would state they were not capable of staining their bills
on their own. However, some of the women were left unprotected, because
they were being discrimination on sex, race and national origin.
Consequently as part of the Education Amendments of 1972, Congress
passed Title IX which prohibits sex discrimination in schools, including
discrimination on the basis of marital status or pregnancy. On second
paragraph of the research on the database Civil Rights Act of 1964.The court
were skeptical if they should enforcing the Title VII. This title protect the

1964 act dated back at least 100 years. (3rd paragraph on the Civil Rights Act
of 1964.) Southern state legislatures had passed a black code. Paragraph 3
on Civil Rights Act of 1964.
That black code was in effort restrict the slaves that were free, they
were not allowed to vote nor carry guns, and not even testify against the
white people. Since most of the African American lived in the south they
were denied the right to have a basic education. Congress outlawed the black
code in 1866 when it passed the first of several 19 th-century civil right acts.
(Fourth paragraph on the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
One of the quotes that I like was That all person within the jurisdiction
of the United States shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the
accommodations advantages, facilities, and privileges of inns, public
conveyances on land or water, theaters, and other places of public

Americans that were elect to server in as a jury, in most case the white
people were given the lightest sentences possible. The pushing offenders
were left for the State courts, this was order by the U.S. Supreme Court. Then
the Race riots were on the headlines even though they were peaceful sit-in
and marches were rarely reported until 1955. That ties in when Rosa Parks
spontaneously violated a Montgomery, Alabama city law but having to give
up her seat and let the white people sit down.
Rosa Parks refused even when the bus driver ordered to let the white
sit down. At the time she was arrest there was a local chapter of the NAACP
who at that time was run by the young Baptist minister which was Martin
Luther King Jr. Which he at the time of her arrest he organized boycott
against the city bus system. This made Martin Luther King Jr. the leader to the
African American. In the 1950s congress made sure that any civil rights
legislation pass. But it had a little of an impact. There was the integration,
President Dwight Eisenhower used his power to make sure that integration
went as planned. Which this result one year of integration. When John F.
Kennedy was President he vowed for the racial segregation to end. Kennedy
had pushed the congress to pass a new civil right bill. Bill had to come up for
vote at the White House. Lyndon B. Johnson made passage of the Civil Rights
Act one of the priorities. That bill was successful in pushing through that was
a law that banned discrimination, based on race, color, or national origin in
public. Pg. 2 last paragraph.
The bill also banned discrimination at place of employment. That made
the work of place an Equal Employment and the more chance to complete
their jobs. With the right to sue if they were mistreated in a federal court.

The effects of Discrimination against Women in the place of business: a
report on the tourism. This obstacles may arise from genders which inhibit
women from being promoted to a management position. One of the main
factors that keep women from getting employed was their education, also
interacting with social and economic.
There is sexual discrimination working in the tourism industry. Women
who work in this industry are being confronted with attitudes, behaviors, and
prejudices, Because of the prejudices shapes in gender roles against women
they are exposed to being discriminated. For example: The issue are ranging
from recruitment their salary and even participation in any kind of training.
This keeps them from have the opportunity in exceeding at their place
of work. Women and men are trained differently since their childhood. In
society today women are becoming more and more quantitatively. Women
have come to prominence in the current age while the working prototype of
the industrial society consists of men. (Barutcugil, 2002:14). The women of
today are being influenced in their lifestyle depending on the career of their
choice, some women prioritize their own business, in effort to show they can
climb the ladder.

The first lady in 1975 was at a conference, she states although the correcting
problem women face are still a few opportunities open to them. She argues
that while the Equal Rights Amendment will help increase womens options.
That is only the beginning. There are many barriers issues like the equal pay
for equal work. And the participation of a housewife is underrated. Many of
this restrictions spring directly from those emotional ideas about what women
can do and should do. These definitions of behavior and ability inhibit men
and women alike, but the limits on women have been formalized into law and
structured into social custom.
The ERA Is Only a Beginning
Change by its very nature is threatening, but it is also often productive. But
changing laws, more job opportunities, less financial discrimination and more
possibilities for the use of our minds and our 200 th birthday to show the great

discrimination. Page 61. Due to the adverse impact some of the policies were
developed toward women, when some of them became apparent. Women
were being discriminated until in 1974, was its twenty-fifth session and the
light of the report of this working group, the Commission decided, in principle
to prepare a single comprehensive and internationally binding instrument to
eliminate discrimination against women. (Second paragraph)
hey have prepared the instrument without prejudice to any future
recommendation that could be made by the United Nations or their
specialized agencies, from the preparation of legal instruments to eliminate
discrimination in specific fields.
The Convention entered into force-Faster than any previous human right
convention.
Conclusion
The conclusion to the essay is that all women were discriminated, they were
not able to work. Women had to depend on their husbands income they were
not allowed to vote nor go out in public. But before they even married they
were told that the only reason they were here was to server their husbands.
They were not allowed to compete with men. Women were supposed to let
the men win. If they got divorce they were not allowed to get an apartment
by themselves they need the signature of the husband. The banks would not
allow to apply for any type of loans, the bank thought they could sustain their
own financial bills. Thats why the women had a hard time convincing the
bank they were capable to take full responsibilities. This went on for many
years. Until women started depending on their own and stated working and

show the men they are capable to maintain a household without them. They
were reminded that their place was letting the boys win. There was countless
discrimination at a workplace. The women once they were hired, they had no
chance of moving forward with any promotion. Education was one of the
factors for women to move forward in a workplace. They didnt have the
education the men did. Women were trained differently from the men. In the
Civil Rights Act they come out with the Black Code in 1964, which stated that
the slaves who were free they were not allowed to vote nor carry gun, and
not even testify against with people. For the African American when they
were sentence they had longer ones then the white people. The main point
about the essay was how women had less disadvantages from men. But the
women of today are influenced by their lifestyle and the way they control
their business. Women of today still are being discriminated but not as much
as in the old days. We women have come a long way now. We have learn
some much of the women in the 1900s and their way of life.
