All About Adverbs How do you

Specific Objective: To teach students about adverbs and how they are
used.
Concomitant Objective: In addition to learning about adverbs, students
will participate in some physical exercises that will get their bodies
moving and increase their understanding and memory of adverbs.

Warm Up: Physical warm-up is not necessary.
Before students get up, start moving, and
participate in physical activity, I need to
introduce the lesson and the definition of
adverbs.
Transition: For the first portion of this lesson,
students will remain in their seats.

Set Induction: Today we are going to do a fun


mini-lesson on adverbs! In a little bit, were going
to practice acting out these adverbs. But first, we
need to do a quick review!
*Get students involved and interested by having
them give example for regular and irregular
adverbs as the lesson goes on.

Learnable Piece: Today, we will learn about


adverbs and how they are used in structuring
sentences. Go through powerpoint on adverbs.
Make sure students are participating when asking
for examples. Provide positive feedback to
students who answer.
Presentation of New Material/Directions:

After explaining adverbs, pull up the slide about

Transition: Pass out the notecards with the


adverbs on it. Once everybody has their
notecard, stand up, tuck in your chairs, and
spread out so that you are not touching anybody
(safety)
*You may get the same adverb twice thats
okay!
Activity: (please describe the location,
structure, and protocols that you will use to
organize and conduct your lesson)
Students will be standing behind their seats in a
place where they cannot touch anyone around
them. Each person must perform the verb I call
out in a manner that reflects the adverb on their
notecard. After each cue, students will switch
notecards with someone around them. Verbs
include running in place, vertical jumping, 10
jumping jacks, punching the air, and doing 5
squats.

Possible Modifications: Have the students get


in groups of two to do the activity and then guess
which adverb they are representing.
