The students involved in this project-based learning will be re
enact real life court cases. This project is needed in my school because of the students lack of knowledge of how the court systems work. The majority of students will do actions in their life that are against the law. It is important that these students are aware of the process taken place if and or when they get caught. How my project works is that the students will be receiving previous knowledge about the roles of the courthouse. I will present my classroom with a case that is currently happening in the education field. If there is no current case going on during this section of the year I will use the most recent case. The students will each be assigned a role in court that we have learned in class. For about a week or so the students will play out the case. I will be watching and observing how the student express their roles. One side will be the student who convicted the crime and the other side will be the administrations/board of the schools. The students will be using the ipads to find their own data about the case. It will be their responsibility to educate themselves and their classmates on the crime convicted. They will go through the entire case step by step and as a class come up with their own outcome of the case. The verdict of the real life case will not be reveled to class until after they have come up with their own through the reenactment. I would like to be able to take the class on a trip down town to witness
a court case in action. This way before reenacting it themselves they
will be able to witness hands on what a day in the courthouse might look like. This will impact about 25-30 students a year and about 75-90 every three years. I am Mrs. Lopez and it will be my first year teaching Social Studies. I am a strong believer in Project-Based learning. It is important for the students to learn through their own eyes and be obtaining knowledge that will later on affect them.
