Brief description/type: This is an art adventure opportunity where children can use their imagination and dont have to be told
what to do or if its correct or wrong.
WHO Its For: one 3 5 year olds
WHY-Rationale: : It is so important for the children to exploring art and sensory materials can build scientific thinking and
vocabulary as children experience the properties of various items and talk with adults about what they are experiencing
Objective(s): By participating in this opportunity, the children will 2 or 3 no more

Demonstrates fine-motor strength and coordination using fingers and hands

Expresses ideas about their own art work

HOW to Prepare: What you need:
MATERIALS:

Light table

Gems or buttons

A design thats simple and already made


SETTING: One on One
SET UP/SPACE: In the art area by the light table
HOW to Teach:
Introduction: Ask the child/children if they have ever played around with a flashlight before? Then go on and show them the
light table and how to use it. Ask the child what he thinks his plan is going to be when he uses the light table. Then let the child
go over to the art area and explore.
Teaching steps:
1. Have child go over to light table and explore.
2. Show the child what materials they get to work with. (gems and buttons)
3. Explore light table with light off.
4. Explore light table with light on.
5. Put clear overhead paper on light table.
6. Let the child explore and do their own design.
Closure & Transition: Ask the child what kind of design they made and have them talk about it. Have the child take a picture
with their design so they can hang it up and show others. But once you have taken a picture with your project they child can
move quickly to their next activity.
